Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many people believe that living rightnow is the only best time available in history. I agree with this statement because of the science and technology we are definitely having an advanced lifestyle compared to other times in past.

First of all, if we compare with stone-age where people would barely knew about doing any activities, they were just surviving their life. During that period they did evolve and started using stones for basic things such as shelter, hunting and many more which can never be compared to morden tools and furnitures. Moreover, eating cooked food was not at all an important thing due to later discovery of fire, that too using stones.

Secondly, before industrialisation humans never thought of travelling to far distance with such convienence would ever be possible. When those people wanted to travel they only had horse carts or boats, that could take them far distances at the cost of months and was not easy to manage for food and shelter on route. In contrast to current availability of flights and ships, people now roam around the globe as a routine.

If I had to choose a historical time to live, I would select around 7000 B.C.E, which was the time when hindu gods and godesses were born and changed the world. I believe that period of time was beautiful as mentioned in manuscripts and vedic puran about hindu mythology in India.

In conclusion, I am happy to say that, being born in this digital age with access to computers, smartphones and other technology it gives us flexibily to connect anywhere in the universe.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the opinion on whether the present is the best time to live and the selection of a historical period. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The arguments regarding the Stone Age and industrialisation are relevant but lack depth, relying on generalisations. The section on 7000 B.C.E. is brief and lacks specific historical context, focusing instead on mythology. To improve, you should provide more detailed explanations and concrete examples to support your claims. The position is clear, but the supporting ideas need more thorough elaboration to reach a higher band.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices such as 'First of all', 'Moreover', 'In contrast', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as the shift from discussing historical eras to mythological figures. The progression of ideas is generally clear, but the flow between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Overall, the structure is functional and supports the development of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The range of vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'industrialisation', 'manuscripts', and 'mythology'. However, there are several spelling errors ('rightnow', 'morden', 'furnitures', 'convienence', 'flexibily') and some awkward phrasing ('surviving their life', 'roam around the globe as a routine'). To achieve a higher score, you should focus on accuracy in spelling and collocation, and attempt to incorporate more sophisticated, less common lexical items to demonstrate a wider range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('people would barely knew'), missing articles, and awkward sentence construction ('if we compare with stone-age where people...'). Punctuation is generally acceptable, but some sentences are clunky. To improve, focus on ensuring that complex structures are grammatically sound and pay closer attention to verb tenses and article usage. The errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score.
