Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is a popular opinion that ideal time in the history for existence is now. In my opinion, the perfect time to live is the present. The current time is not only advanced in technology but also in terms of medical sciences; However, there are other fascination timelines to exist such as the pandemic era where Corona Virus outbreak happened.

In present times, we are extremely lucky to witness the great technological boom in Artificial Intelligence. While many people think advancement in technology has taken many jobs from human being, on the other side, we can see it has created many new employment opportunities in the same field. For instance, many tedious and repetitive jobs have replaced by the chat bots using Artificial Intelligence but there are lot of jobs which requires you to create those chat bots. Moreover, there are huge improvement and advancements in medicines which has increased the life expectancy of people living in current time. For instance, there was no vaccine for polio before some time and now with the medical research and expertise, we have the vaccine and hence a we can avoid such diseases easily now.

Other interesting timeline to be present would be the pandemic epidemic where there were many cases of Corono Virus patients. It would be extremely difficult time period to live but it will be interesting to see how doctors and different governments around the world have managed this situation and finding new solutions to the problem at hand. For example, the concept of working from home was less prevalent before this pandemic. This was a very unique solution to the problem.

Nevertheless, there were many innovations happened during pandemic which are very amazing to witness. For instance, Zoom Meetings (a video conference meeting platform) was created so that people can have virtual meetings and they do not have to attend meetings in person.

In conclusion, the current time is amazing time to live and witness the Artificial Intelligence and medical science advancement. On the other hand, it is quite inspiring and interesting to be living in the pandemic due to its new creative innovations and solutions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the current era and an alternative historical period. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the discussion on the present is clear, the choice of the 'pandemic era' as an interesting time to live is unusual and lacks depth, focusing more on the logistical challenges of COVID-19 rather than historical significance. The position is clear throughout, but the arguments could be more thoroughly extended to reach a higher band. The response covers all requirements, but the analysis of the second part of the prompt is slightly superficial, limiting the overall impact of the argument.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear central topic. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'For instance', and 'Nevertheless' are used to link ideas. However, there are instances where the flow is slightly mechanical, and some transitions between sentences feel abrupt. Referencing is generally clear, though some minor issues with pronoun usage occur. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow, which supports the overall coherence of the piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated language like 'tedious', 'prevalent', and 'technological boom'. However, there are recurring errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'ideal time in the history for existence' (should be 'in history') and 'fascination timelines' (should be 'fascinating'). Some phrasing is slightly unnatural, such as 'before some time'. While the range is sufficient to convey meaning, the lack of precision and occasional errors in word formation prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The student uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, including missing articles ('the' pandemic), subject-verb agreement issues ('there are lot of jobs which requires'), and awkward phrasing ('many innovations happened during pandemic'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some errors in comma usage and sentence boundaries. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to suggest a lack of full control over complex structures, keeping the score in the 6.0 range.
