Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses the two main parts of the prompt, giving an opinion on whether the present is the best time in history to live and exploring another interesting time period. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and repetitive. For instance, the writer states 'I feel that no matter what time in history people are living is the best' but then contradicts this by repeatedly arguing that the modern era is indeed the best due to technology and healthcare facilities. The discussion of another historical time period is very brief and underdeveloped, lacking specific historical examples. Consequently, the position is sometimes unclear and ideas are not fully extended, fitting the characteristics of Band 5.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is divided into distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs, and a conclusion, showing an attempt at overall organisation. However, the progression of ideas is often disjointed, and cohesive devices are used inaccurately or mechanically, such as 'Although, sometimes people need to face...' and 'there are many times in the history where people can live is more intersting. However, I think...'. Referencing and logical transitions between sentences frequently break down, making the flow bumpy. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion within paragraphs lacks clear logical progression, corresponding to a Band 5 performance.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, with several awkward word choices and collocation errors. Examples include 'surrounding the technology' instead of 'surrounded by technology', 'create strong bonding' instead of 'strong bonds', and 'high technology daignosed disease earlier than in the history time'. Spelling errors like 'intersting', 'rathen', 'convinient', and 'daignosed' are noticeable. While the vocabulary is minimally adequate to convey the basic message, the limited range and frequent errors that cause some difficulty for the reader place this response firmly at Band 5.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but many of the complex forms contain noticeable grammatical errors. Examples of faulty structures include 'I feel that no matter what time in history people are living is the best' and 'people does not have to suffer'. There are frequent errors with subject-verb agreement ('people does not'), prepositions ('in todays era', 'in the history time'), and missing main verbs in clauses. Although the meaning can generally be deciphered, the high frequency of grammatical mistakes restricts the error-free sentence ratio, aligning with Band 5.
