Student answer (Band 5.0)

Modern era has become matter of concern. People believe today life is easy and affordable. I do not deny that this has plausible outcomes.

Certainly, modern world has extraordinary facilities rather than old times. Masses can easy talk to each other by their phone from one part of world to another. Furthermore, Cars made our life easy to commute everywhere in the country , a person can save time and utilise time in his productivity and make wealth to make his life easy. To exemplify, UN research show that countries with modern technology has more GDP than others. Ergo, modern time is best for the human beings because of technology.

Subsequently, another cooperative outlook is that modern world has research and development in agriculture sector which helped farmers in more productivity of crops which overcome the problem of hunger and make farmer rich. In old times, people were dying because lack of food . For example, Government of India research show that every person is getting bread and butter after green revolution in India. Moreover, clubs and pubs helps a person to get rid of loneliness at home , pupils are enjoying their lives with their friend. Resultantly, modern researches has solved problem of hunger and loneliness.

Although this is best time to live but i love to live in 16 century because i like warrior and their fights. In old times fighters were very strong and powerful they fight with other kingdom to make their kingdom more stronger. They were fearless and have guts , i want to enjoy their fights.

In an inference , i believe that modern era with all facilities is best than other centuries but people should maintain cleanliness and reduce pollution.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, giving an opinion on whether this is the best time in history to live and identifying another interesting era (the 16th century). However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited and relies on sweeping statements. For instance, the discussion of the 16th century is very brief and superficial, stating simply that the writer likes 'warrior and their fights.' While a position is clear, the supporting points lack depth and elaboration. This places the response firmly at Band 5.0, where the task is addressed, but ideas remain under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into logical paragraphs, each addressing a distinct point. However, the progression of ideas is frequently disrupted by awkward transitions and mechanical cohesive devices like 'Ergo,' 'Subsequently,' and 'In an inference.' Referencing is occasionally unclear, and the overall structural flow is choppy, making it sometimes difficult to follow the writer's line of thought. Paragraphing is attempted, but internal cohesion within paragraphs is weak. This corresponds to the Band 5.0 descriptors, characterised by some organisation but lacking clear overall progression, alongside inadequate or inaccurate cohesive devices.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is generally basic and repetitive, with noticeable errors in word choice and collocation. Examples include 'modern era has become matter of concern,' 'Masses can easy talk,' and 'fighters were very strong and powerful they fight.' There are also issues with word forms, such as 'more productivity' instead of 'greater productivity' and 'lack of food' used inconsistently. While the language is minimally adequate to communicate the basic meaning, the limited range and frequent errors restrict the score to Band 5.0.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The text displays a very limited range of sentence structures, relying primarily on simple sentences or faulty complex constructions. There are frequent grammatical errors throughout the response, including missing articles ('in 16 century'), subject-verb agreement issues ('countries with modern technology has'), and punctuation errors. Attempts at complex sentences often result in run-on structures or comma splices, such as 'Cars made our life easy to commute everywhere in the country , a person can save time...'. These frequent errors cause some difficulty for the reader, aligning with the Band 5.0 descriptors.
