Student answer (Band 6.5)
Some individuals contend that present decade is the best time to live in. In my opinion, although nowadays we have myriad modern day problems, they can be easily solved with the help of technology and scientific discoveries. Additionally, if given a chance I would also like to experience the renaissance period due to the extreordinary invention in arts, science and literature.
To commence with, the main reason why people argue that now is the best time in the history to be living is that because of technological advancements. To elaborate, scientific discovery have made human life much more easier and comfortable. Now we have better food, shelter and clothes to wear as comapred to few decades in the the past. Futhermore, another major reason is the betterment of the medical science. It is easy to find cures to many health ailments which was not possible in past. To exemplify, diseases realated to kindey, heart and liver were falat in the past but in the present it is possble to repace organs with medical surgeries.
In additio to this, I would like to live in the renaissance period which happend in the European continent between 14th and 17th century. This period witness remarkable discoveries in the art, science and literature areas. Great thinker and artist such as Leonardo da vinci proposed several ideas which are still potent and inspire people today. Living during that period would have allowed me to witness development of ideas which still shape the modern day world. However, I only want to experience it for a short period of time becasue life was uncertain at that time due to wars between kingdoms.
To recapitulate, this essay has discussed that advances in medical science and access to better living coinditions are the reasons why some people believe that now is the best time to be living. In my opinion, present time is considered most liviable because the value to life has increased where humans are not exploited and items such a food, shelter are considered as basic needs which are accesible to everyone.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The candidate addresses all parts of the prompt successfully by discussing why the present is considered a great time to live and nominating an alternative historical period (the Renaissance) with clear reasons. In the introduction, the writer states their opinion and outlines both aspects of the task. The ideas are extended and supported with relevant examples, such as medical advancements replacing organs like kidneys, hearts, and livers, and referencing Leonardo da Vinci. While some of the supporting points are slightly general, the position remains clear throughout the response, meeting the requirements for a Band 7 performance under this criterion.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The response is logically organized with a clear overall progression. The essay is divided into distinct paragraphs, including an introduction, two body paragraphs addressing the respective prompt questions, and a concluding summary. Cohesive devices are employed to link ideas, such as "To commence with," "To elaborate," "Furthermore," and "In addition to this." However, there are occasional minor issues with referencing and mechanical transitions, and some cohesive phrasing feels slightly formulaic. Overall, the logical sequencing and clear paragraphing warrant a Band 7 score.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The student demonstrates a sufficient range of vocabulary to allow some flexibility and precision, incorporating less common items like "technological advancements," "medical science," and "Renaissance period." There are several spelling and word-choice errors, such as "extreordinary" instead of extraordinary, "comapred" instead of compared, "Futhermore" instead of Furthermore, "kindey" instead of kidney, "falat" instead of fatal, "repace" instead of replace, and "coinditions" instead of conditions. Despite these errors, the vocabulary is adequate for the task and communication is never impeded, placing the response firmly at a Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The writer uses a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including relative clauses and conditional structures. There are several grammatical and mechanical errors throughout the text, such as article omissions ("present decade" instead of the present decade, "in past" instead of in the past), subject-verb agreement issues ("scientific discovery have" instead of scientific discoveries have), and punctuation mistakes. However, many sentences are error-free, and the errors do not impede communication, matching the descriptors for Band 6.
