IELTS Writing Task 2 question

Some people say that now is the best time in history to be living.

What is your opinion about this?

What other time in history would be interesting to live in?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Several people believes that current timeline is the best in history to live. In my opinion, this modern and technological era is one of the best time in human history. However,19th century would be another interesting period to live in because of the remarkable inventions and advancements in science and technology.

Furthermore, I think, having advance technologies and progressive systems are the prominent reasons behind the superiority of current period. Invention of robots and AI technology is the biggest achievment of this century, which was unimaginable in previous times. These inventions has made humans life much easier and convenient in every aspect. For instance, robotic machineries were imagination of people of earlier century, but nowadays, most of the factories use robotic machines to do tough jobs easily and productively.

On the other hand, in my view, the 19th century would be intriguing period to live because it was a crucial time of history due the invention of telephone and photographs. Humanity was making remarkable progress during that period. Alexander Graham Bell invented the biggest achievements of human history "Telephone" in that period as well as the photographs were also invented in the same time. This accomplishments has provided great comfort and help to entire world. Due to this, I believe living in that era and watching the rise of technology would be interesting and exciting at the same time.

In conclusion, although, living in current world is exciting due to having various technologies success which provides convenience and comfort, living in the 19th century to see the rise of the modern world would be unimaginable.

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting less common lexical items such as 'technological era', 'prominent reasons', and 'remarkably progressive'. However, there are noticeable word choice and collocation inaccuracies, including 'Several people believes' (subject-verb agreement error impacting lexical control), 'current timeline', and 'This accomplishments has'. Spelling and word formation are generally acceptable, but inaccuracies in form and collocation prevent the score from reaching a higher band.
