Some people say that now is the best time in history to be living.

What is your opinion about this?

What other time in history would be interesting to live in?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is an undeniable fact that this century has played a paramount role in innovations and technology. Some people opine that in history, this is the best time for living. From my perspective, I agree and love using today's technology; however, I would have loved to live in the 17th century. In the paragraphs below, I would like to put forth my views with a valid opinion in the conclusion.

To begin with, it is very common for people to call someone overseas and talk to them by using the advanced technology smartphones, which was one of the toughest task in ancient times. Moreover, scientists have cured many severe diseases by discovering medicines for them. For instance, chemotherapy for cancer, laproscopy to treat perticular organs, and many more. Furthermore, the usage of artificial intelligence is making the life simpler day by day. For example, many people take help of it to find the information on their fingertips by using tools such as chatGPT and google Gemini. Additionally, we can use air conditioners in blistering summer and heaters in freezing winters to make our surroundings comfortable.

However, we seldom give a thought to ponder over how this innovation began. Anciently, people were living life without the technology. Most importantly, all the greatest scientists lived in 17th century such as Sir Issac Newton and Wright brothers. Apparantly, their discoveries have contributed a lot to today's science. Many science students would like to gain experience under such great personalities. Therefore, if I get a chance, I would like to witness the time when their researches got recognised by the whole world. Later on, the life without lamps, phones, televisions, refrigerators and ovens would have meant totally different from today.

The seemingly inexorable debate about the best time in history for living can keep on going. Nevertheless, showing deep reverence for all aspects and observing a finer nuance for the matter mentioned above, I espouse the notion of supporting the fact that we are having the maximum comfort in history. We can travel the world through flights, talk to someone anywhere phones, can take help for household chores by robots. Thus, I feel we are living in the best time.

The candidate demonstrates a sufficient vocabulary range to communicate ideas flexibly and with some precision. Less common lexical items are attempted, such as 'paramount role', 'blistering summer', 'seemingly inexorable debate', and 'finer nuance'. However, there are occasional inaccuracies in word choice, collocation, and phrasing, such as 'anciently, people were living life' instead of 'in ancient times' or 'in the past', and 'laproscopy' (spelling error for laparoscopy).
