Student answer (Band 4.0)

yes agree living in past is not beneficial decision because old people thinking, conservative mind and old tradition are best for old people but new generation can't understand and interesting. in my opinion i can't say old era is bore, conservative because they are depend those time era.i would believe that we live in present because we can't go back to past era and have any time machine that going in future.we just live in present era live, feel, breath, eat, drinkand live in moment.we just have discipline on our life not that point only enjoy .just remember work in present it automatically your future is best and secure. in present,we will me more grateful and work hard for your best future.in this point we live in present not to focused on future.your work hard will always bear fruit.after work hard and focus you work you need to explore the world taking tour gaining experience.experience make you face for every situation. It will you to get social knowledge.most of the people which learn the experience because it make you stronger and stronger.example are so many but i will tell you that give me strong lesson once you have anything people respect you and people behave gracefully. In your bad time no one tap your shoulder that you are brave and strong and you will win one day but. i would like to say something that family support that enough you just see you mother and family one you will be succeed that's the word will enough for you.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

The response addresses the task only minimally. While the writer touches upon the prompt by expressing a preference for living in the present rather than the past, the ideas are presented in a very fragmented and tangential manner. The second part of the prompt, which asks about another interesting time in history to live in, is largely neglected and not explicitly answered. The position of the writer is somewhat unclear due to the disjointed nature of the arguments, and the ideas presented are limited and inadequately developed. For instance, the discussion on working hard, gaining experience, and relying on family support is presented as a rapid sequence of thoughts rather than a sustained, well-supported argument. To move towards a higher band, the writer must ensure all parts of the prompt are explicitly addressed and that each main idea is extended with clear explanations and relevant examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 3.5

Information and ideas are not arranged coherently in this response. The text lacks clear paragraphing, appearing as a single, dense block of text that makes progression difficult to follow. There is a lack of overall logical progression, and the transitions between sentences are frequently abrupt and confusing. Cohesive devices are used inadequately or inaccurately, which disrupts the flow of reading; phrases such as 'in this point' or 'after work hard and focus you work' fail to create clear semantic links between ideas. Referencing is also unclear at times, leaving the reader to guess the connections between clauses. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to organise the response into logical paragraphs, use basic cohesive ties more accurately, and ensure that ideas flow naturally from one to the next.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, which strains the reader's comprehension. The student relies heavily on simple words and phrases such as 'best time', 'old people', 'live in moment', and 'work hard' throughout the text. There are numerous word choice, collocation, and word form errors that impede communication, such as 'old era is bore', 'depend those time era', and 'experience make you face for every situation'. Additionally, spelling and morphological errors are frequent, including missing suffixes and incorrect word forms like 'succeed' used instead of success. To improve lexical resource, the writer needs to expand their vocabulary range, learn proper word pairings and collocations, and pay closer attention to word forms and accuracy.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response demonstrates a very limited range of grammatical structures, consisting mostly of simple and heavily faulted sentences. Errors are frequent and often distort meaning, making it difficult for the reader to grasp the intended message. There are persistent issues with verb forms and tenses, subject-verb agreement, and missing articles or prepositions, as seen in expressions like 'have any time machine that going in future' and 'It will you to get social knowledge.' Punctuation and sentence boundaries are also poorly controlled, leading to run-on sentences and comma splices, such as 'It will you to get social knowledge.most of the people...'. To progress, the writer must work on constructing grammatically sound simple sentences before attempting complex structures, while paying close attention to verbs, articles, and sentence boundaries.
