Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is debated that, the best time to live is today as the latest techology has transformed the way we live and communicate making our lives convenient and effective. From my prepective, the early 20th century was the time to actually live because there were more elderly people that had pure intentions and relationships were beyond words.

In the contemporary world, the lastest innovations has streamlined our ways of living and it is much convenient to communicate with people using mobile phones. Video calls is the fast and efficient way to connect anywhere by a single click which has reduced the distances between individuals who are living miles away from their family. Additionally, the demading tasks are now carried out with thehelp of machinary which saves time and energy. For intance, the challenging tasks which can take hours such as data enteries can be easily performed by artificial intelligence.

In contrast to it, though there were no technology and most of the routine works were carried out by group of people which help them to strengthen their bonds. The active lifestyle was the top priority due to which the life span was longer and youngsters used to learn the skills from their elders which was advantageous in a long run. The joint family system was common and children learns the basic values and traditions from their grandparents. The purity of relationships is reduced in this era as mobile phone and other devices has reducd the face-to- face interaction which has effected the emotional attachment. For example, the grandparents were the first teachers of the children who used to teach them about basic manners and religious values.

To conclude, though latest devices has many benefits which has made our live efficient. However, it has reduced the warmth of emotional bonds and purity of relationships which would have detrimental effects on the future generations.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your response addresses both questions: you acknowledge the advantages of living now, then identify the early twentieth century as the period you would prefer. The contrast between convenience and technology today and closer family relationships in the past is relevant, and examples such as video calls and grandparents teaching children help explain your view. This gives the response a clear position and meaningful support. However, the second part is developed more fully than the first: you do not clearly state whether you agree that today is the best time in history, and the claims that people in the past had purer intentions and longer lives need qualification or evidence. Explain more directly why the early twentieth century would be interesting to you, rather than presenting it mainly as a better time.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The essay has a clear overall structure: the opening introduces the contrast, the next paragraphs discuss modern life and the past, and the conclusion returns to the effects of technology on relationships. Linking expressions such as “Additionally,” “In contrast,” and “To conclude” make the main stages easy to follow. The progression is generally logical, but some connections are mechanical or unclear. For example, “In contrast to it” does not specify exactly what is being contrasted, and the third paragraph moves from group work to lifespan, learning, family structure, and emotional attachment without clearly showing how each point supports the main comparison. Use more precise references and organise each paragraph around one central idea, with transitions that explain the relationship between points.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “streamlined,” “emotional attachment,” “joint family system,” and “artificial intelligence.” These choices show an attempt to express ideas beyond basic everyday language. However, spelling errors and inaccurate word forms are noticeable, including “techology,” “prepective,” “demading,” and “machinary.” Some combinations are also unnatural or imprecise: “the best time to actually live,” “pure intentions,” and “the life span was longer” do not convey your intended meaning as clearly as they could. There is some repetition of “relationships,” “technology,” and “children,” and a few phrases are difficult to interpret. Check spelling carefully and learn vocabulary in natural collocations, such as “strong family ties” or “a longer life expectancy,” to improve precision and fluency.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “which” and contrasts introduced by “though.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main ideas remain understandable. However, errors in agreement, articles, and verb forms recur. For example, “the latest innovations has” should use a plural verb, while “Video calls is” needs a plural verb or a singular subject. In “children learns,” the verb does not agree with its subject, and “devices has” has the same issue. Some sentence boundaries and punctuation also need attention: the conclusion begins “though latest devices has many benefits” as a dependent clause, then shifts to “However” without completing the structure smoothly. Review subject–verb agreement and practise combining dependent clauses into complete, well-punctuated sentences.
