Student answer (Band 6.5)
For the record, some people believe that this modern era is the best time to live. I suppose that innovations and technology has made this endearing. The early modern era would also be a fascinating era to live as would be discussed in this essay.
To begin, the contemporary modern era I believe is the best time to live in epic because of the growing rate of technologies and innovations in all spheres of life. Today, with telecommunication system, we can communicate with friends and family who live abroad, send and receive emails with ease, rather than waiting for weeks and months to receive post mails. this has greatly eradicated delay in information promoting its timeliness.
Furthermore, introduction of tractors in farming has greatly improved agricultural system by increasing its productivity and sales, generating more income and revenue to the farmers and government respectively.
Subsequently, the early modern era would be tempting to live in because of its peaceful and family-centered nature. Firstly, during this era, family time is highly valued. Parents after a busy day retire to spend time with their children over bedtime and moonlight stories. These enhances family bond while creating room for parents to instill in their children good morals. Secondly, the environment is eco-friendly with less or no air, water and noise pollution. With fewer cars, noise and carbon monoxide release in the air are minimal and with fewer industry, sewage release to the water was at bay. All in general promoting aquatic and healthy human life.
In conclusion, the serene and family-focused nature of the early modern time makes it quite a fascinating period in time, but I believe that the technical advancement of the contemporary world makes now a better time to live in.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your response addresses both questions and maintains a clear overall view: you consider the present the best time because of technology, while identifying the early modern era as an interesting alternative. The examples of communication and tractors are relevant and help explain the benefits of modern life. You also give reasons for the historical period, especially family life and a less polluted environment. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the early modern era is described as peaceful and family-centred without clarifying which period or society you mean, and the claims about pollution and family routines are broad. More precise examples and fuller explanation would make the ideas more convincing and developed.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction, separate paragraphs for the two periods, and a conclusion that restates your position. Sequencing phrases such as “To begin,” “Furthermore,” and “Secondly” help readers follow the discussion. This clear structure is a strength. At times, however, the linking is mechanical or the relationship between ideas is not fully clear. “Subsequently” does not express a clear time or logical relationship when introducing the alternative era, and “All in general” is an awkward transition into the result. Some references, such as “this” in “this has greatly eradicated delay,” could identify their subject more precisely. Use transitions that show the exact relationship between points and connect explanations more smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “telecommunication,” “agricultural,” “productivity,” “eco-friendly,” and “aquatic.” These choices show an effort to use topic-specific and less common language. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, however, which limits precision: “live in epic” does not convey a clear meaning, “endearing” is not suitable for describing the benefits of technology, and “post mails” is not idiomatic. There is also repetition of “era” and “time,” while phrases such as “income and revenue” overlap in meaning. Aim for natural collocations and select vocabulary that expresses your intended meaning exactly; this will make the argument sound more fluent and controlled.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including reason clauses and longer sentences beginning with “Today” and “With fewer cars.” Most of the meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. For example, “innovations and technology has made” has a subject–verb agreement error, and “These enhances family bond” has agreement and article/plural problems. The sentence beginning “Today, with telecommunication system” also needs an article, while the lower-case “this” after a full stop is a punctuation and capitalization error. Some sentence fragments, such as “All in general promoting aquatic and healthy human life,” weaken grammatical control. Check agreement, articles, and sentence completeness, and revise long sentences to ensure each has a clear main clause.
