Student answer (Band 5.0)

It is widely believed that in order to live a perfect live in history, modern era is the perfect time. I strongly agree with this statement because nowadays people have purposes to live. Also, I believe that life before world wars were more peaceful and enjoyful.

The major reason why today's life is best in history is the positive attitude of individuals. This is because modern people are career-oriented and they want to be sucessful in their lives, owing to which they spent more time on enhancing their skills, appearence. As a result, their hardwork may bring a positive change in the society. For example,

Apart from today's era, I consider the time right after human revoulation would be interesting to live because during that time people were innovative. They made everything we have at present from scaratch, which shows that they were

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You state a clear opinion that the modern era is the best time to live in, and you also identify another period—the time after the “human revolution”—that you would find interesting. However, the response addresses the task only minimally: the reasons are brief, the example is left unfinished (“For example,”), and the second historical period is not explained enough to show why it would be interesting. The claim that life before the world wars was more peaceful is also not developed. The response is 107 words below the required minimum, which leaves major parts of the argument unsupported. To strengthen your answer, explain each reason, give a relevant example, and complete the discussion of both periods.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

The response has a basic overall structure: an introduction, a paragraph about modern life, and a paragraph about another historical period. Linking phrases such as “The major reason” and “Apart from today’s era” help signal the direction of the discussion. However, progression is limited because the first body paragraph stops after “For example,” and the final sentence is unfinished. The connection between the claim that modern people have a positive attitude and the idea that they improve society also needs clearer explanation. Develop each paragraph around one complete point, use transitions to show how examples support those points, and provide a concluding sentence so the response feels complete.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “career-oriented,” “enhancing their skills,” “innovative,” and “positive change in the society.” These choices show an attempt to express ideas beyond very basic language. However, the range is limited, and several inaccurate or misspelled expressions reduce precision, such as “perfect live,” “enjoyful,” “sucessful,” “appearence,” “revoulation,” and “scaratch.” Some phrases are also unnatural, including “purposes to live” and “made everything we have at present from scratch.” Aim to use more precise topic vocabulary and check spelling and collocations carefully. For instance, describe what people invented or developed rather than making a broad claim that they made everything.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause beginning “This is because” and a result clause introduced by “As a result.” Most of the intended meaning can be followed, but grammatical control is uneven. In “life before world wars were,” the subject and verb do not agree; “people … spent more time” also shifts tense within a general present-day argument. The opening phrase “in order to live … modern era is” lacks a clear grammatical connection, and “they were” at the end is incomplete. There are also punctuation issues, particularly the comma after “For example,” with no example following. Use complete sentences, maintain consistent tense, and check agreement and article use.
