Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, so many things are changed as compared to the past. A number of people think that currently it is the best time to live a life.

In this essay I will discuss the view of people in detail and provide my opinion at the end of the essay. Moreover, I also elaborate the other time where living would be interesting.

First of all, nowadays technological advancement made it easy to live a life. In simple words, there are so many new gadgets were developed such as planes, vehicles which made it very convenient to travel. For instance, in previous time people need to think about twice before living to meet family member in different town as it was take much time to reach there. Secondly, the internet is the best findings in this time. Everything is connected with the internet and it is very easy to do so many things like video calling with friends and family, watching news, movies and series in phone and television.

Whereas, the life before the internet is also a good period to live. During that time people used to spend more time with their family members and neighbors. To simplify, during that time people are free when they come back home after work so they able to spend quality time with them. To illustrate, children used to play outdoor games instead of sitting in home to watch TV. Furthermore, People used to enjoy festivals in authentic style instead of rely on any artificial materials.

In conclusion, both the time have their own way to enjoy and live a life. However, I think current time is the best as there are so many conveniency which make life easy to live without any hassle. Such as easy to travel and the internet use are the best thing happened this time.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

You address both parts of the prompt: you explain why the present may be the best time to live, and identify the pre-internet period as another interesting era. Your position is clear in the conclusion, where you favour the present because of travel and internet access. The examples about video calls and children playing outdoors help make the comparison relevant. However, the second era is described broadly rather than tied to a particular historical period, and the benefits of family and community life are not developed as fully as the advantages of technology. The introduction also promises to give your opinion “at the end,” so your viewpoint is less explicit earlier on. State your position in the introduction and extend the historical comparison with a specific example or clearer time period.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs comparing the present and an earlier period, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “First of all,” “Secondly,” and “In conclusion” make the progression easy to follow, and examples generally appear alongside the points they support. Some linking is mechanical, however, and “Whereas” begins a paragraph without clearly connecting the contrast to the preceding discussion. The introduction repeats its plan by saying the essay will discuss the view, give an opinion, and elaborate on another time. Some references, such as “during that time,” are broad and could be more precise. Use fewer formulaic signposts, make contrasts explicit, and organise each body paragraph around one main idea with a clear explanation and example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “technological advancement,” “video calling,” “quality time,” and “outdoor games.” These choices help distinguish modern convenience from earlier social life. However, several word choices and collocations are noticeably unnatural or imprecise, such as “the best findings,” “conveniency,” “authentic style,” and “without any hassle.” Repetition of “time,” “life,” and “easy” also limits flexibility. Aim for more natural combinations and precise terms: for example, describe the internet as a major “innovation,” and say that it makes daily life “more convenient.” A wider range of accurate vocabulary would make the comparison clearer and more fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including examples introduced with “For instance” and “To illustrate,” and most ideas remain understandable. However, errors in verb forms, agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur across the response. For example, “there are so many new gadgets were developed” combines incompatible structures; “people need to think” and “it was take much time” do not maintain appropriate tense or verb form; and “both the time have” has a number-agreement error. There are also awkward constructions such as “they able to spend.” Practise building accurate past-tense sentences and checking subject–verb agreement, articles, and verb patterns. More reliable control of these forms, alongside your attempts at complex sentences, would improve clarity.
