Student answer (Band 6.0)

Imagine living in a time where there was no Wi-fi and cell phones, you will get chills, right? That is how the current time tops the charts of all times. Everything, literally everything is within your reach and has made our lives convenient.

Let me explain why I believe the current time is the best time to be living in. Technological advancement in every aspect of life, whether commute or communication or standard of living, has made our lives easy. For example, now you do not have to miss your family members just because they live far from you. You just simply have to pick up your cell phone and make a video call. In earlier time the mode of communication was mainly through the letters where people had to wait for a long time. Other example, but comparatively similar, is the commute and transportation. With the airspace within the reach, you can fly to anywhere and be there in no time.

Some people might disagree with my opinion, especially, the elders. have you ever asked your elders about their time when they were growing up? You will be surprised with their answers, I bet. They will be praising about their old time. The main reason which I could understand is that, due to the hustle and bustle of the daily routine where everybody is trying to make both ends meet, people have lost the sense of "personal touch". Everything has now feel artifical. The feel that one used to get from the letter from the loved ones, handwritten, a text message of now a days cannot replace that.

In a nut shell, every time has its own advantages and disadvantages. If I ever get a chance to time travel, I would love to experience the old times where a travelling to another place meant spending days on the road or desert or shipping in the open sea.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you consider the present the best time to live because technology makes communication and travel easier. The examples of video calls and earlier reliance on letters support this view, and you also address the second question by choosing the past as a period you would like to experience. This covers all parts of the task and shows some development beyond simply stating an opinion. However, the alternative period remains vague: “the old times” is not identified, and the final image of travel by road, desert or sea is not explained as a reason that era would be interesting. The discussion of elders’ nostalgia is relevant, but could be connected more directly to your own choice. Specify a historical period and develop why you would want to experience it to make the response more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall arrangement: an opening opinion, a paragraph supporting modern life, a contrasting paragraph about nostalgia, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress in a sensible order, and examples help the reader follow your reasoning. Some linking is effective, such as “For example” and “In a nut shell,” but transitions can feel mechanical or unclear. “Other example, but comparatively similar” does not clearly explain the relationship between the communication and transport examples, while “Some people might disagree” introduces a contrast that is only partly developed. The conclusion also shifts abruptly to time travel without clearly tying that choice to the earlier discussion. Use more precise links between claims and examples, and make the final paragraph explicitly summarise both answers.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss technology, communication and daily life, including “technological advancement,” “hustle and bustle,” and “personal touch.” These choices help convey your ideas, and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more expressive language, such as “tops the charts,” though this is informal for an IELTS essay. Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “within your reach” is repeated, “praising about their old time” is not natural, and “Everything has now feel artifical” contains a word-form and spelling problem. Aim for more precise, formal phrasing and check common collocations. For example, describe technology as “readily accessible” and say that older people “speak fondly of their youth.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including conditional forms (“If I ever get a chance to time travel”) and clauses introduced by “whether” and “where.” Most of the message remains understandable, but some errors in sentence structure, verb forms, agreement and punctuation reduce accuracy. For instance, “Imagine living …, you will get chills” joins two clauses incorrectly, and “Everything has now feel” uses an incorrect verb form. The sentence beginning “have you ever asked” needs a capital letter, while “In earlier time” and “a travelling to another place meant” show problems with articles and sentence construction. Review these patterns and proofread for complete sentences, consistent verb forms and capitalisation. More accurate control of the structures you already attempt would strengthen the writing.
