Student answer (Band 6.0)

In a world full of artificial intelligence and changing technologies each day, for some people it is easy to believe that they are living in the best era of alll times. For me, I do agree with them, as 20th century has proved to be more advanced then one could think of it. From the boom of internet, easier communication, accesible healthcare, advanced education systems to easier and faster travel options, humans have all that they ever wanted.

In 19th century, it was not possible to do one task as easily as it is possible now. With limited resources, people were bound to live in one place, their whole lives. While in the 20th century, people can choose where to live, what jobs to opt for and what foods to grow. This generation is more aware of the geopolitical changes than any other generation. In this time, Boomers, Gen-X, Millenials, Gen-Y, Gen-Z, Gen-Alpha and Gen-Beta, all are living in same conditions and adapting to an everyday changing world.

This was never seen before.

However, if we turn a page and just for a second we think about any other time that would be great to live in would definitely be the Mughal Era of the subcontinent. The historians have written beautiful history about their ultra luxurious lives. The mughals had very advanced architecture and living standards. They had huge mansions to live in and hundreds of servants who remained at their service 24 hours a day. They could eat whatever they wished and could travel where ever they want. They fought wars and won continents as a result. Their time seems to be fascinating for someone like me who is interested in their rich history.

Lastly, I think, everyone who has reached an adulthood in this era, we all like to live in it and we enjoy being in a faster and smarter world.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you agree that the present is the best era, and you also identify the Mughal period as another time you would find interesting. The response addresses both questions and gives relevant reasons, including communication, healthcare, travel and your interest in Mughal history. The examples about servants, architecture and luxury help explain the appeal of that era. This meets the main requirements well, but the two parts are not equally developed: the case for the present relies on broad claims such as “humans have all that they ever wanted,” while the Mughal discussion focuses mainly on the lives of wealthy rulers. To strengthen the response, qualify generalisations and explain more specifically why modern life is preferable overall, while acknowledging a limitation or counterpoint.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay has a clear overall shape: it introduces your view, develops the advantages of modern life, turns to the Mughal era, and ends by restating your opinion. Paragraphing supports this progression, and transitions such as “However” and “Lastly” help signal changes in focus. Some connections are less smooth or precise, however. “This was never seen before” is separated from the point it refers to, and the shift from the 19th to the 20th century does not fully clarify the comparison with the present. The final paragraph repeats the opening position rather than drawing together the reasons. Use clearer references and link each paragraph’s main claim to the next; a more specific concluding synthesis would make the progression feel less mechanical.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “artificial intelligence,” “geopolitical changes,” “architecture,” and “living standards.” These choices help communicate both the benefits of contemporary life and the attraction of the Mughal period. There are also some inaccurate or awkward choices that limit precision, such as “boom of internet,” “won continents,” and “reached an adulthood.” Spelling and form errors, including “alll,” “accesible,” and “Millenials,” are noticeable, although the intended meaning is generally clear. Aim for more natural collocations and check spelling carefully. More precise language would also help avoid broad claims—for example, distinguish between the opportunities available to many people today and the privileges enjoyed by Mughal elites.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including the contrast beginning “While in the 20th century” and the conditional phrase “if we turn a page.” Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “as 20th century has proved” needs an article, and “people can choose … what foods to grow” shifts from past comparison to present without a clear reason. The sentence “any other time that would be great to live in would definitely be the Mughal Era” is awkwardly constructed, while “everyone who has reached an adulthood … we all like” has a mismatch between the subject and the following clause. Review articles, tense consistency, and sentence construction, and make sure each sentence has a clear grammatical subject and main clause.
