Student answer (Band 6.5)

Over the past few years, many people believe that the present is the best in history to be living. I definitely agree with this statement because modern society offers sufficient advantage such as in healthcare, technology and education.

There are several reasons why I believe the present is the best time to live. First, technology advancements have made everyday activities much easier and convenient. Due to technology people can communicate easily with friends and family in different country. Individuals can purchase goods online, order food online and complete many task without living home. Secondly, medical science develop continuously which can help people live longer and healthier. It can also help people to recover from illnesses that were once difficult to treat. Education has also become accessible for everyone. These days students can easily learn through online platforms or videos. For example, a student who lives in a remote village can now study at home by using internet.

Another period in history that would be interesting to live in 'the Ancient Egyptian era'. I would love to see how the pyramids were built and learn about the culture, traditions, and daily lives of ancient Egyptians. It would be fascinating to witness their architectural achievements. However, I would prefer to experience this period for a short time because healthcare and living conditions were more difficult than today.

In conclusion, I believe that the present is the best time in history to live because of advances in healthcare, technology, and education. Nevertheless, the Ancient Egyptian era would be an fascinating period to experience because i can learn about the culture.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you agree that the present is the best time to live, and you also identify the Ancient Egyptian era as another period you would find interesting. The reasons are relevant and supported with examples, such as online learning for students in remote villages and the chance to observe pyramid construction. This gives the response a clear, purposeful answer to both questions. Some points, however, are asserted rather than fully explored: the benefits of education, for instance, are mentioned briefly, and the historical period is described mainly through architecture and culture. Develop one or two examples further by explaining their significance or adding a specific detail.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response is organised into a clear introduction, a paragraph explaining the advantages of modern life, a paragraph about ancient Egypt, and a conclusion. The progression is easy to follow, and signposts such as “First,” “Secondly,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” help readers understand how the ideas relate. The contrast introduced by “However” also effectively qualifies your interest in the past. To make the flow more flexible, avoid relying mainly on explicit sequencing words and connect related points through clearer references or cause-and-effect links. For example, the discussion of technology, healthcare, and education could be tied together with a sentence explaining how these advances collectively improve everyday life.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of vocabulary to discuss the topic, including relevant terms such as “medical science,” “recover from illnesses,” “remote village,” and “architectural achievements.” These choices make your meaning clear, and you attempt some topic-specific language when describing ancient Egypt. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “technology advancements,” “sufficient advantage,” and “complete many task.” There is also repetition of “online” and “learn.” Aim for more natural combinations and greater variety, while checking word forms and plurals. More precise vocabulary for describing historical life and the effects of modern developments would help you express your ideas with greater flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause beginning “because,” a relative clause in “a student who lives in a remote village,” and a contrast introduced by “However.” Most sentences remain understandable, but some grammatical errors occur. Examples include “in different country” and “complete many task,” where plural forms are needed, and “medical science develop continuously,” where the verb form does not agree with the subject. The final sentence also has an article error in “an fascinating period.” Continue practising subject–verb agreement, articles, and plural nouns, and proofread sentence endings and capitalisation. These corrections would improve accuracy while preserving your clear overall meaning.
