Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
The response makes a relevant attempt to address the topic: it introduces the view that the present may be desirable and states a preference for “20 decades,” then begins to refer to technology. However, it does not explain the opinion or identify clearly what historical period “20 decades” means, and it gives no developed reasons, examples, or discussion of why another era would be interesting. The essay therefore addresses the task only minimally, with the main ideas left incomplete. The response also falls short of the required 250 words, which leaves too little space to answer both questions. To improve, state a precise position, name a specific historical period, and support each choice with relevant explanations and examples.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic attempt to organise the response: the opening introduces the topic, and “To start” signals the beginning of a supporting point. The ideas are not developed far enough, however, to create a clear progression from the opinion to reasons and then to the alternative historical period. The phrase “This essay will discuss the opinions about both worlds” promises a structure that the response does not go on to provide. The final sentence also ends abruptly, so the reader is left without a completed point or conclusion. Use separate paragraphs for your view and the other period, and connect each claim to an explanation or example before moving on.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
The response attempts some topic-related vocabulary, including “advent of the technology,” “human experience,” and “desirable,” showing an effort to discuss historical change and modern life. However, several expressions are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “changing scenarios,” “in the history,” and “both worlds.” The spelling error “opnions” also reduces accuracy. The intended meaning is generally understandable, but the limited range and imprecise collocations make the argument difficult to express clearly. Aim for precise phrases such as “changing circumstances,” “throughout history,” and “the present and the past,” and check spelling carefully. Naming a specific era would also allow you to use more relevant vocabulary.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
The response includes an attempt at a complex opening sentence, using “that” and “with changing scenarios,” and it also tries to use a contrast with “but.” However, control is uneven. In “It is not a deniable fact but I believe 20 decades could have been a better time,” the contrast needs clearer punctuation and the sentence structure is awkward. “The way we live today and in future it has changed the human experience” has an unclear subject and verb relationship, and it is left without a full stop. The range of sentence forms is limited in this short response, and these issues sometimes make the intended meaning unclear. Practise building complete sentences with a clear subject and verb, and use punctuation to separate contrasting ideas.
