Student answer (Band 6.5)

Throughout history, people have experienced different lifestyles and living conditions depending on the era in which they lived. Although, earlier periods had their own cultural and historical significance, I firmly believe that the present time is the best time to live because of advancement in technology, healthcare and overall living standards and I would also find the golden era of art and science is interesting.

To begin with, it is easy to understand why the modern era is preferable for living. Firstly, advancement in healthcare system increase life expectancy of the individuals and modren treatment help prevent diseases. In the earlier time some diseases cannot cure, but now all kinds of treatment is possible such as heart problems, cancer, organs transplatation and so on. Technological adavancement makes human life easier and comfortable in several fields such as smartphones, laptops, computers, internet and so on. Moreover, in education sector online courses provide access to education worldwide. People can also see recoreded lecture anytime and anywhere. In the transportation field, modern vehicles save time and make travelling convenient.

On the contrary, if I had the opportunity to experience another historical period, I would choose the Renaissance period. On that time artist created extraordinary paintings and sculptures and people get greater appreciation for beauty and creativity. They also thinking about scientific discoveries and it would be exciting to witness the development of scientific thinking. Apart from this, literature and learning gained importance and I could learn about philosophy, history and classical literature. Lastly, architects designed impressive buildings and structures and mathematical equations were used to improve architectural designs.

In the final analysis, while the past offers valuable cultural experinces, I believe that the present is the most desirable period to live in owing to the advancement in every field such as education, technological and better opportunities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0

Your position is clear throughout: you consider the present the best era because of advances in healthcare, technology, education and transport, and you identify the Renaissance as another period you would like to experience. Both parts of the prompt are addressed, and the examples of medical treatment, online learning, art and architecture make the response relevant. This fits a response that develops its main ideas and supports its position. To strengthen it further, explain the consequences of these examples more fully: for instance, show how longer life expectancy or access to recorded lectures changes people’s daily lives. The Renaissance discussion is interesting, but its points are mostly listed rather than developed with a specific example or personal reason.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0

The response has a clear overall progression: an introduction states your view, the first body paragraph explains the advantages of modern life, the next considers the Renaissance, and the conclusion restates your position. Paragraphing is appropriate, and signposts such as “Firstly,” “Moreover,” and “In the final analysis” help readers follow the argument. The ideas within each paragraph are generally ordered sensibly. At times, however, the linking feels formulaic, and the list of modern benefits moves quickly from healthcare to technology, education and transport without showing how these points relate. Use a wider range of transitions and clearer links between examples and the main claim. Also ensure contrast markers accurately reflect the relationship between ideas; “On the contrary” introduces an alternative choice, rather than directly contradicting the previous paragraph.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “life expectancy,” “organs transplantation,” “scientific discoveries,” “classical literature” and “architectural designs.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some are appropriately specific to the historical periods discussed. However, several spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural combinations limit the accuracy and flexibility of the vocabulary: “modren,” “adavancement,” “experinces,” and “recorded lecture” are examples. Phrases such as “advancement in healthcare system” and “greater appreciation for beauty” could also be expressed more naturally. Proofread spelling and learn common word partnerships as complete phrases. This would make your vocabulary sound more precise while preserving the clear meaning of your response.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in the introduction (“Although…”) and a conditional structure (“if I had the opportunity…”). Most sentences remain understandable, and the overall meaning is clear. Some grammatical errors persist, particularly with subject–verb agreement, tense and sentence construction. For example, “advancement… increase” should use a singular verb, while “some diseases cannot cure” needs a passive form such as “could not be cured.” In “They also thinking,” the verb form is incomplete, and the opening “Although” clause is not correctly connected to the main clause. Review agreement, passive constructions and clause punctuation, then check each sentence for a complete verb. More consistent accuracy would strengthen the range you are already attempting.
