Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, we have plenty of facilities for living a comfortable lives, one might say that it is the best time to be alive, but the fact that most people disregard is that, it's only true for less than a one third of the world population. I think the time before the medival period were way better.

It is true that today with the help of technlogy we can almost acheive anything, with this growth of in the technology and avalibility of convinient services, the increace in greed and divide between people above and below poverty line has widend as well. Some people are enjoying the luxuries that an ordinary person can only dream about, while others are sturgling to just afford daily neccessities. For example, heads of multinational companies have multiple homes and farm house across the world while an average person working in blue collar job has to spend more than half of his salary on housing alone( it could be rent or mortgage).

On the other hand, when most common job was farming, and most of the people had approximately same wage; the quality of life was better. Everyone in town knew eachother, they had fixed routines, and they were less ambitious. People lead a simple life, where they enjoyed life daily. The community was well connected and had little to know stress. for instance a farmer in those days does not have to worry about increasing the yield of his crop every year just to afford the equipment he needed, he had would have been satisfied by the whatever yield he had. In my opinion that period in history would have been more intresting time to live in.

To sum up, with mordenization of the world, the stress in a person's life has increased drastically. The greed and increasing convinient life style has created a world where only few can afford a comfortable life, where as in era before medival period, everyone led less stressfull life and were more social than today. Hence, i will choose to live in that time period over mordern day world.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you reject the idea that the present is best for everyone and prefer an earlier, pre-medieval period. You address both questions and support your view with relevant contrasts, including housing costs today and the farming community of the past. This meets the task well, but some claims are broad or insufficiently explained. For example, the assertion that people in the earlier period had similar wages and better quality of life needs qualification, since living conditions varied and farming could involve hardship. The example about a farmer’s yield is relevant, but its connection to lower stress could be developed more explicitly. A more balanced explanation of the historical period and stronger support for your comparisons would make the response more fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your opinion, two body paragraphs compare modern life with the past, and the conclusion restates your choice. Transitions such as “On the other hand” and “To sum up” help readers follow the argument. However, some links between claims are abrupt or unclear. The first body paragraph moves from technology to greed and inequality without fully explaining the connection, while the second shifts from farming to community and stress in a list-like way. Some referencing is also imprecise, as in “that period” and “those days,” because the historical timeframe is not clearly defined. Use clearer topic sentences and explain how each example supports the paragraph’s main point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary for discussing social conditions, including “poverty line,” “luxuries,” “daily necessities,” “mortgage,” and “community.” These choices help communicate the comparison, and phrases such as “blue-collar job” show an attempt to use more specific language. However, spelling errors are frequent and sometimes distract the reader, including “medival,” “technlogy,” “acheive,” “avalibility,” and “intresting.” There are also awkward or inaccurate word combinations, such as “convenient life style” and “increace in greed.” Aim to check spelling carefully and learn common collocations as complete phrases. More precise wording would also help avoid broad expressions such as “way better.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including contrast clauses and examples, as in “Some people are enjoying the luxuries … while others are struggling…”. The main argument remains understandable, but errors in sentence structure, agreement, tense, and punctuation recur. For example, “the time … were” has a subject–verb agreement problem, and “a farmer … does not have to worry” shifts tense within a discussion of the past. The opening sentence also joins several clauses with commas, making its structure difficult to control. Review sentence boundaries, verb agreement, and consistent past-tense forms when describing historical life. Breaking longer sentences into clearer units would improve accuracy without limiting your range.
