Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Ahmad,
I am writing in response to your letter to give my suggestion, either to go to college or to start a job.
In my opinion, going to college in this age will not be a good idea, because you have already wasted five years and to join now, will be difficult due to age-gap with your colleagues.Similarly, the college now has not a good reputation due to loss of good faculty over time.
It is best opportunity to go for a job, because you have already multiple skills and can join any job due to multiple vacancies announced in government sector. You can also continue your college course in your part time by taking online classes.By getting a job, you can earn a good wealth that will help you establish your own business.
The most appropriate job would be working as computer operator, because you already have a lot of experience in this field. Similarly, the working hours are flexible and you only have to work in the morning, which will enable you to either do a second job in the evening or go for continuing your higher studies.
I am looking forward to a good news from you about your job.
Yours buddy,
Sharif

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response addresses all three bullet points required by the task. You clearly state why college might not be suitable, explain the benefits of employment, and suggest a specific job role. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the claim that the college has lost its reputation is a bit vague. To reach a higher band, you could provide more specific, personal reasons for your advice to make the argument more convincing and fully developed.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organised with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Similarly' and 'because', although some transitions feel a bit mechanical. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different points of the letter. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the flow between sentences is smoother, as some transitions currently feel slightly abrupt, such as the jump from discussing job vacancies to online classes.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'reputation', 'vacancies', and 'flexible'. There are some minor inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'earn a good wealth' (which should be 'earn a good salary' or 'earn a good living') and 'at this age' (which should be 'at your age'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, incorporating more precise collocations and less common lexical items would help elevate the score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'the college now has not a good reputation' (should be 'the college does not have a good reputation') and 'a good news' (news is uncountable). Punctuation is generally functional, though there are some spacing issues after commas. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and article usage will lead to significant improvement.
