Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You clearly explain why college might not be suitable, provide logical reasons for choosing a job, and suggest specific roles. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly more on the 'why' behind your suggestions to provide more depth, but overall, the response is well-developed and fully satisfies the task requirements.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use cohesive devices such as 'Consequently', 'Moreover', and 'Therefore' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or repetitive. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between sentences would enhance the flow and elevate the score further.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'financial stability', 'professional journey', and 'critical-thinking' are used appropriately. There are some minor word-choice errors, such as 'give you advise' (should be 'advice') and 'interest to attend' (should be 'interested in attending'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precision in word forms and collocations to reach the higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'whether start your professional journey' (should be 'whether to start'), 'enroll in the college' (should be 'enroll in college'), and 'will helpful' (should be 'will be helpful'). These errors are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of infinitives will help improve your accuracy.
