Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear KamaI,

I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter I want to give advise which is very useful for you and your career.

Yesterday your mom came your house and ask that you are little bit confused for your career either you have to do study or will do job. My advise is for you to choose the job option. As you should not enjoy to go in college because your entire study is completed by girl school and college is coo-ed. So it also take too much time to go through with that environment and accept it. Rather than spending a time on this side, I think it is good to join online classes and side-by- side also do job.

Having a job have so many benefits. Firstly, you can save some money for you future and also pay your own tuition fee. However, you can also support your parents with this money. In this age, if you will choose the job, it will not create trouble for your future and you will get the good position and experience in this age.

There are so many good and high package job like information technology, administrative assistant, clinical are some jobs which is relevant with your previous study. By this job you will not earn good but will get good position in future. I hope you will think about more deeply and choice what is good for you.

Your lovingly,

Teenu Walia

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why college might not be suitable, why a job is a better option, and suggesting specific roles. Your position is clear throughout the letter. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation regarding why you believe your friend would not enjoy college (due to the co-ed environment) is a bit subjective and could have been expanded with more practical reasoning. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are fully developed and provide more depth to the points you raise.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'However', and 'Rather than', which help the reader follow your argument. However, the flow between some sentences is slightly mechanical, and there are instances where the connection between ideas could be smoother. For example, the transition between the mention of your friend's mother and the advice itself is a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., 'this money') is always clear will help improve the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You have a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly, such as 'administrative assistant' and 'tuition fee'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'entire study is completed by girl school' and 'high package job'. These errors occasionally make the text sound unnatural. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and phrases used in professional or advice-giving contexts. While your vocabulary is adequate for the task, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher band scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Having a job have', 'jobs which is relevant') and article usage ('at this age'). Some sentences are also structurally confusing, such as 'I am writing this letter I want to give advise'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to affect the overall fluency of your writing. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your score.
