Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear ABC,
I am glad to receive you letter. I hope you are doing well. I am writing this letter in regards of the suggestion you have asked for. Firstly, I would like to mention some reasons for not going for matriculation. At this point, you would not enjoy going to college as it is often considered boring. Additionally, you will have to pay extra if you choose to go to college, which could put you in the financial constraint.
Secondly, there are significant advantages of getting job at this time. You can gain the relevant experience in your field, which opens the door for the high-paid job opportunities in the future. On the other hand, you will be financially stable while earning paychecks.
Lastly, I would like to suggest you for IT related jobs, as you have achieved C1 class certification in the IT program and you have all the required skills, which would help you to adjust yourself with this job.
Best of luck for the future! If you need anything from me, please let me know.
Yours lovingly,
ABC

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly state why college might not be enjoyable, explain the benefits of working, and suggest specific IT-related roles. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, the explanation of why college is 'boring' is a bit generic. To reach a higher band, you could provide more personal or specific reasons to make the advice feel more tailored to your friend's situation. Overall, the task is fully addressed with a clear position maintained throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. You use transition signals such as 'Firstly', 'Additionally', 'Secondly', and 'Lastly' to guide the reader through your points. While these are effective, the use of some connectors feels slightly mechanical. The progression of ideas is clear, and each paragraph focuses on a single aspect of the prompt. To improve, try to vary your linking words and ensure that the flow between sentences feels more natural rather than relying solely on list-like transitions.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your ideas clearly. Phrases like 'financial constraint', 'relevant experience', and 'financially stable' are used correctly. There are some minor awkward phrasings, such as 'in regards of' (should be 'in regard to') and 'going for matriculation' (which is slightly confusing in this context). While the vocabulary is adequate for the task, it lacks the 'less common' or more idiomatic expressions that would elevate the response to a higher band. Focus on using more precise collocations to express your thoughts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Most of your sentences are clear and easy to follow. There are a few grammatical slips, such as 'I am glad to receive you letter' (should be 'your') and 'suggest you for IT related jobs' (should be 'suggest IT-related jobs for you'). Punctuation is generally accurate. To improve, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex grammatical structures, such as conditional sentences or relative clauses, while ensuring that your control remains consistent to minimize these minor errors.
