Dear ................. ,
Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Jessica,
I'm writing to give you a valuable advice for your future.
I hope your're doing well. I came to know that you're confused for making decission about your future. I'd say that you should focus to get a job. You already spend a lot of time with your friends while completing your bachelor's degree. You'll not get those same friends as you had which will make your college life monotonous.
As you're well-matured and have enough understanding about life. Your father is working as a mechanic and mother is also suffering from several health issues. I'd say getting a job will be a better idea for you. Moreover, you may reduce the burden of your father by earning some money and support him to provide financial stability.
However, you completed your bachelors degree in Computer Science I'd say you should work as a data operator or a machine operator in a reputed company. You would get high-salary package through which you can fulfill the basic needs of your family. Furthermore, you may continue with your further studies by pursuing your masters degree. If you need any help don't hesitate to contact me.
I hope you'll take a wise decission very soon.
Yours lovingly,
Meet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why college might not be enjoyable, why working is a good idea, and suggesting suitable jobs. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why college would be 'monotonous' is not fully convincing or clearly linked to the friend's situation. Additionally, the suggestion of a 'data operator' for someone with a Computer Science degree feels slightly underdeveloped in terms of career progression. To reach a higher band, ensure your reasons are more logically connected to the friend's specific circumstances and provide more depth in your explanations.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'However', and 'Furthermore' to link your ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the mention of the friend's parents and the suggestion to work could be more fluid. The use of referencing is generally clear, but ensure that your cohesive devices are used to enhance the natural progression of your argument rather than just acting as signposts.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'financial stability', 'monotonous', and 'reputed company'. There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'give you a valuable advice' (advice is uncountable) and 'confused for making decission' (confused about making a decision). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precision. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and the correct usage of uncountable nouns. Your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your message clearly, but it lacks the flexibility and precision required for higher bands.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'hope your're doing well' (spelling/contraction error), 'focus to get a job' (should be 'focus on getting'), and 'you completed your bachelors degree' (missing punctuation/conjunction). While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your meaning. To improve, pay closer attention to verb patterns (e.g., 'focus on -ing'), punctuation, and basic spelling. Increasing the variety of complex structures while maintaining accuracy will help you achieve a higher score.
