Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Aarav,

I hope you are doing well, I am writing this to advice you to get employed instead of wasting your time doing higher studies.

You have all the necessary skills and education which you need to get hired. It would be difficult for you to manage your time during studies because you need to do many assignments and prepare for final examination every semester. Moreover it would take too long to complete this course which not be fruitful for you because all skills you might learn during this course, nowadays can be learned by doing online courses.

Taking job from the first day help you to gain more experience and you can get real world experience while working with professionals. You can uplift your skills while doing your job from industry specialists.

According to your previous education background and skills like cognitive and imperative , might get directly eligible for supervisor role in any company. After getting experienced you might get qualified for manager role in coming years.

Hope to see you soon!

Best wishes,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt: why college might be unsuitable, the benefits of working, and suggestions for suitable roles. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the suggestion of a 'supervisor role' is a bit vague and lacks specific context regarding the industry. The advice is clear, but the explanation of why college would not be enjoyable relies on generalities about assignments and time management. To reach a higher band, you should provide more specific, personal examples or a more nuanced argument to fully develop your points.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points requested in the prompt. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Moreover' and 'According to', to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or abrupt. For example, the transition between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother. Additionally, the referencing in the final paragraph is slightly unclear, as the link between your friend's skills and the specific 'supervisor role' is not fully explained, which affects the overall flow of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'industry specialists', 'cognitive', and 'eligible'. However, there are some instances of imprecise word choice and awkward collocations. For example, 'taking job' should be 'getting a job' or 'starting a career', and 'uplift your skills' is not a standard collocation; 'enhance' or 'develop' would be more natural. The phrase 'imperative' is used incorrectly in this context, as it is an adjective rather than a noun describing a skill. Expanding your range of natural collocations will help improve your score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors. For instance, 'I am writing this to advice you' should be 'advise' (verb). There are also issues with article usage and missing words, such as 'which not be fruitful' (should be 'which would not be') and 'taking job from the first day help' (should be 'taking a job... helps'). Additionally, the sentence 'all skills you might learn... nowadays can be learned' is slightly clunky. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and consistent verb tense usage will significantly improve your accuracy.
