Student answer (Band 7.0)
Dear Eva,
How are you? I am writing this letter to respond back to you with my opinion about get a new job.
I think you would not like to get admission in the college, because you already did your nursing degree. I think after spending four years in the college It is a time to try something new.
It would be better if you get part- time job along with that you can get extra time for clear the NECLEX exam, which is mandatory to become a registered nurse.Doing part- time job into related field not only boost your experience and sharp your skills but also helps you to become finiacial independent.
I think you can either work as personal support worker in the Nursing Homes or home support worker in the community. So that before starting your job as register nurse you could familier with the duties and working environment in healthcare field.
Thanks for considering me for advice Let me know what is your opinion? Take care.
With Love,
Mandeep Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why college is unnecessary, the benefits of working, and suggesting specific job roles. Your position is clear throughout the letter. The ideas are relevant and provide a logical flow for a friend. To reach a higher band, ensure that your explanations are slightly more detailed; for instance, you could expand on why the specific jobs mentioned would be particularly beneficial for her nursing career path. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'because', 'not only... but also', and 'so that' to connect your ideas. However, the progression between sentences could be smoother. Some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing is functional but could be more sophisticated. To improve, try using a wider variety of linking words and ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence that guides the reader through your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using topic-specific terms like 'nursing degree', 'registered nurse', and 'healthcare field'. There are some minor errors in word formation and collocation, such as 'get admission in the college' (should be 'enrolling in college') and 'finiacial independent' (should be 'financially independent'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precision. Expanding your vocabulary to include more idiomatic expressions or precise collocations would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'respond back to you with my opinion about get a new job' (should be 'getting') and 'clear the NECLEX exam' (should be 'clearing'). Additionally, there are minor issues with articles and verb forms, such as 'It is a time' (should be 'it is time') and 'could familier' (should be 'could become familiar'). Increasing your control over complex structures and proofreading for small errors would significantly improve your score.
