Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Lily,
How are you ? I’m extremely ecstatic to receive your letter and looking for my advice on your further professional decision.
First of all, Congratulations on completing your bachelors, you look amazing on photos which posted on your social media account last a couple of days back. Coming back to your career point, after closing considering your family situation; I strongly believe going for higher education at this point is not a wiser idea since this will increase more financial burden on your family and also diminish your interest in studies.
Instead, I would like you to hunt for the job opportunities first because accumulating funds might teach you various financial responsibilities, help you to support your family and also meet your long term goal studying aboard for masters.
As you completed your degree in Financial specialisation, there are various opportunities you can look in the banking and finance industry in Indeed and LinkedIn. Moreover, don’t forget to share resume with me.
All the best for the interviews.
Warm regards,
Anjali

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained why college might not be the best choice, provided a logical argument for why working is beneficial, and suggested specific industries for your friend. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and your position is consistent throughout. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly more on the specific types of jobs beyond just mentioning the industry, perhaps by suggesting specific roles like 'junior analyst' or 'financial assistant' to make the advice more concrete and helpful.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5
The letter is well-organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a concluding remark. You use transition signals such as 'First of all', 'Instead', and 'Moreover' to guide the reader through your arguments. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate different ideas. The flow of information is logical, and the relationship between your points is easy to follow. To improve, ensure that your referencing is precise; for example, in the second paragraph, 'which posted' is slightly awkward and could be improved by using a relative clause like 'which were posted'.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, such as 'accumulating funds', 'financial responsibilities', and 'professional decision'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies in word choice and collocation. For instance, 'extremely ecstatic' is redundant, and 'closing considering' should be 'closely considering'. Additionally, 'studying aboard' is a common error; you likely meant 'studying abroad'. While these errors do not impede communication, refining your use of collocations and ensuring accurate word forms will help you achieve a higher score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'photos which posted' (should be 'which were posted') and 'look in the banking' (should be 'look for in the banking'). Punctuation is generally good, though there is an unnecessary space before the question mark in your opening sentence. Most of your sentences are clear and error-free, but a more careful proofread would help eliminate these minor slips and improve the overall accuracy of your complex structures.
