IELTS Writing Task 1 question

You recently received a letter from a friend asking for advice about whether to go to college or to try to get a job. You think he/she should get a job.

Write a letter to this friend. In your letter

• say why he/she would not enjoy going to college
• explain why getting a job is a good idea for him/her
• suggest types of job that would be suitable for him/her

Dear Rahul

I am great and hope you and your family will be in high spirits as well. I am writing this letter to advise you to get a job rather than going to college.

Firstly, we both are aware of the financial situation of your family. Secondly, your father also met with an accident last month and is bed-ridden which makes the situation even worse. Moreover, the fee for enrolling in any college is too much and your family would not be able to bear that. So, being the eldest son it is your responsibility to handle the house expenditure. Therefore, you should apply for jobs.

You are excellent at typing and understand excel as well so try to look for either front-desk assistant or receptionist roles to have some experience which can be used as an asset for further opportunities. I believe you will follow my advice and will start hunting for a job.
