Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Rahul,

How're you? Hope you're doing well.

I get back to you about your recent query related to job or college, I would say college decision is not worth it because you already did graduation in Marketing and another study in the same field would be expensive as you're not earning at this point and its hard for your father to give money for your further study.

I guess job would be better option because it is high time to get experience in the same field you studied. I am sure you'll get enough pay for your job as marketing field is always demanding job. You're very brilliant and you'll use your skills and knowledge in better way to get the job.

I think so you should apply for supply marketing job or sales marketing through company website or either you can use your reference to get job. I would recommend go for electronic company marketing job in Jalandhar and I have one friend in my contact who is working in reputed company if you want I can send his phone number. Let me know if you need.

Look forward to your reply.

Rimz.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explain why college is not suitable, why a job is a better alternative, and provide specific suggestions for employment. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the explanation regarding the financial burden on your father could be expanded to show more depth. Overall, the response is relevant and fulfills the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, which helps the reader follow your argument. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'because', 'as', and 'however' (implied), though the transitions between sentences could be smoother. Some sentences feel slightly disjointed, such as the transition between the financial point and the job suggestion. Using a wider variety of linking words like 'furthermore', 'consequently', or 'on the other hand' would improve the flow and help you achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'marketing', 'demanding', and 'reputed'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'did graduation' (should be 'completed your degree') and 'supply marketing job' (which is unclear). To improve, try to use more precise collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. While your vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'How're you?' (informal but acceptable, though 'How are you?' is safer), 'I get back to you' (should be 'I am getting back to you'), and 'its hard' (should be 'it is'). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and missing prepositions. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and tense consistency will help improve your accuracy.
