Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Simran,

I hope this letter finds you well. I am writing to suggest some views upon taking the call to find a job. Instead of continuing the studies your recent diploma is useful to locate a job in teaching profession. Your experience as a early childhood educator is most important for your upcoming practicum work. After the completion of three months, you will be eligible to apply for the full time job role in the same. I believe your job can also help to improve financial conditions. You can also save some money for future studies. Also, ECE and tutor jobs are most valuable opportunities for you to start with. I can also help you will references if you needed.

Thank you for asking me for an advice. I hope this could help you to make a decision. I wish you to meet you soon in person.

Yours sincerely,

Amanjot Kaur.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points, though the development is somewhat limited. You explain why college might not be ideal by suggesting the diploma is already sufficient for employment, and you provide relevant job suggestions like ECE and tutoring. However, the explanation of why a job is a good idea is brief and could be expanded with more personal reasoning. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is developed with more depth and specific examples rather than just stating the ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is generally coherent, and the progression of ideas is logical. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Instead of', 'After the completion of', and 'Also'. However, the paragraphing is not fully utilized; the letter is essentially one block of text, which makes it harder to follow. Using clear paragraph breaks for each bullet point would significantly improve the structure. Additionally, some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring clear paragraphing will help you achieve a higher score in this criterion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, but it lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some relevant terms like 'practicum', 'educator', and 'eligible', which is good. However, there are some awkward collocations and word choices, such as 'taking the call to find a job' (instead of 'making the decision') and 'help you will references' (a grammatical error affecting lexical clarity). To improve, try to incorporate more natural collocations and avoid repetitive phrasing. Focus on using more precise vocabulary to express your thoughts more fluently.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors that occasionally impede the flow. For example, 'I wish you to meet you soon' is unnatural, and 'help you will references' contains a clear grammatical error. There are also issues with article usage ('in teaching profession') and prepositional phrases. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents a higher score. Focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and proofreading for small slips to improve your accuracy.
