Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points: it explains why college might not be ideal, why working is beneficial, and suggests a specific job. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why the friend would not enjoy college is vague, focusing more on the transition to work rather than the drawbacks of further study. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose is clear throughout. To improve, you should expand on your reasoning with more specific examples or personal anecdotes to fully develop your arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is organized into logical paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'Furthermore', and 'In my opinion' to link your ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally hindered by grammatical errors and awkward phrasing, such as in the second paragraph. The use of referencing is generally clear, but the overall progression of ideas could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next would help elevate your score in this criterion.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'economically strong', 'productive', and 'promotional content'. However, there are several instances of incorrect word choice and spelling errors, such as 'suggetion' instead of 'suggestion', 'practies' for 'practice', and 'advert tge produict' which is quite distracting. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure you proofread your work to eliminate basic spelling mistakes and ensure word forms are used correctly in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the clarity of your writing. Examples include 'as you are confusing between your college and job' (should be 'confused'), 'our master's have been completed' (should be 'master's degree'), and 'I hope you would considered' (should be 'consider'). These errors are persistent throughout the text. While the meaning is generally understandable, the frequency of these slips prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on subject-verb agreement and correct verb tense usage.
