You recently received a letter from a friend asking for advice about whether to go to college or to try to get a job. You think he/she should get a job.

Write a letter to this friend. In your letter

• say why he/she would not enjoy going to college
• explain why getting a job is a good idea for him/her
• suggest types of job that would be suitable for him/her

Dear Alex,

I was glad to receive your letter, and I’m happy to give you some advice about your future. In my opinion, getting a job would be a better choice for you than going to college.

Firstly, I know that you do not enjoy studying for long hours or preparing for exams. College requires a lot of reading, attending lectures and completing assignments, so I think you might find it stressful and boring. You have always preferred practical activities and working with other people.

Getting a job would allow you to earn money and become more independent. You could also gain valuable work experience and develop useful skills. In the future, this experience could help you find a better position or even start your own business.

I think jobs in sales, customer service, or retail would suit you well because you are friendly, confident and good at communicating with people.

I hope you will consider my advice.
