Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear bro,
I received the news that you got your offer from University of Toroni, congratulations for that. I can understand that you are little confused to decide on your future. In my opinion, going to college after studying for 6 years will be tiring for you. I have seen that you did excellent work during your internship, and I think that you are now ready to work as an independent surgeon.
If you are looking for a job than I would like to help you with that as I have a big friend circle. Most of them works in hospitals. I can arrange an interview for you with my father so that you feel confident. I think work experience will build confidence and you will become more independent to open your own clinic as you are capable of doing it. If you want to apply for jobs, I will send you some information regarding your field job so that its easier for you to start your career.
I hope to hear back from you soon. All the best in advance as you will be getting an interview soon.
Love,
Pan

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt: explaining why college might be tiring, why working is a good idea, and suggesting suitable job types. Your tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, you mention that college would be 'tiring' after six years of study, but you could have elaborated more on the specific benefits of immediate work experience versus the academic burnout you fear. The suggestion of jobs is also a bit vague, focusing more on the process of getting an interview rather than describing specific roles. Expanding on these points would lead to a higher score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'If you are looking for' and 'In my opinion' to connect your ideas. However, the progression between sentences could be smoother. Some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and the paragraphing is slightly underdeveloped; the second paragraph is quite dense and could have been split to better separate your offer of help from your advice on career benefits. Using a wider variety of linking words would improve the flow of your argument.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'independent surgeon', 'internship', and 'career'. There are some minor inaccuracies, such as 'University of Toroni' (likely a typo) and 'field job', which is not a standard collocation. You also use 'big friend circle', which is slightly informal and could be replaced with more precise academic or professional vocabulary. While your meaning is always clear, the range is somewhat limited, and you rely on fairly common phrasing throughout the letter.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, such as conditional sentences ('If you are looking for...'). There are several grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Most of them works' should be 'work') and minor punctuation or preposition errors ('confused to decide' should be 'confused about deciding'). While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher band score. To improve, focus on ensuring that your verb forms match their subjects and refining your use of prepositions in complex sentences.
