Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear John,
Hoping this letter finds you in pink of your health. I am writing this letter to suggest you suitable job for secure future instead of investing money and time on study.
You already spent three years on an Early childhood educator program. I can understand that it is easy for you to spend time in college again. Moreover, it can be hard to manage work and study together. But, I believe that a job can be great opportunity for you to fulfill your dreams. Moreover, you can be financial independent with a job and it can add experience in your profession. Apart from it, you can plan trips with friends as per convenience and explore the world.
I would like to suggest you that daycare job can be suitable match for you as per your graduation. This profession can provide you either experience and salary. You can learn to manage
children behaviour and get hands on practise. Later, it will help to achieve higher position as an manager in the daycare.
I hope you would take my suggestion into your consideration and act accordingly.
Lots of love.
Arpan.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
The letter addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly state why college might not be ideal, explain the benefits of working, and suggest a specific job. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why college would be hard is brief, and the suggestion of a daycare job could be more detailed regarding why it specifically suits your friend's personality or goals. To improve, try to expand on your reasoning with more specific examples or personal anecdotes to make the advice feel more tailored and persuasive.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Apart from it', and 'Later' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'Apart from it' to introduce a new point. Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. To reach a higher band, focus on using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the progression of ideas within paragraphs is more fluid and less reliant on repetitive sentence starters.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'Early childhood educator', 'financial independent', and 'hands on practise'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'in pink of your health' (the standard idiom is 'in the pink of health') and 'financial independent' (should be 'financially independent'). There is also a minor error in 'either experience and salary' (should be 'both experience and salary'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over common collocations and grammatical forms of words.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. However, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'suggest you suitable job' (missing an article), 'You already spent' (should be 'You have already spent'), and 'as an manager' (should be 'as a manager'). Some sentences are slightly fragmented or awkward, such as 'You can learn to manage children behaviour and get hands on practise.' Despite these errors, the meaning remains clear throughout the letter. Increasing your focus on article usage and verb tense consistency will help improve your accuracy.
