Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Aryan,
I hope you enjoyed our house party last month. I came to know by your brother that you are planning to enrol in University of Toronto for your masters.
Specially, I am advising you to don’t go for it. You have already done your bachelors three years ago. After long gap with books and college environment I dont believe that you will able to continue again further studies. Moreover, your classmates will be younger than you and you might feel shamed or demotivated.
Instead of that you have good enough working experience in bank as android developer. Now you can try to find one more step ahead positions jobs like team lead or senior developer. I have few references I will share with you. Start preparation for the interviews. Also, next year you are planning for wedding and for that reason continue with job will be the best option finically and mentally both better than wasting another two years in university and taking debt.
I think my suggestions will help you take right decision.Best of luck for job hunting. Can’t wait for your wedding.
Best regards,
Aryan.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You provided a clear rationale for why college might not be suitable, explained the benefits of working, and suggested specific career paths. Your position is consistent throughout the letter. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are slightly more developed; for instance, while you mention the financial burden of debt, you could briefly elaborate on how the current job market favors your friend's existing experience to make the argument more persuasive. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the prompt.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical progression, moving from the initial greeting to the advice and concluding with well-wishes. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Instead of that', and 'Also' to link your ideas. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by slightly awkward phrasing, such as 'I came to know by your brother'. The paragraphing is functional, but the transition between the advice about the job and the mention of the wedding could be smoother. Improving the variety of linking words would help the text feel more natural and cohesive.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'enrol', 'demotivated', and 'finically' (though this appears to be a misspelling of 'financially'). There are some instances of unnatural word choice, such as 'shamed' instead of 'embarrassed' and 'one more step ahead positions jobs'. While your meaning is clear, the vocabulary is somewhat basic and relies on repetitive structures. To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and ensure that your spelling is accurate, as errors like 'finically' can slightly distract the reader.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of your writing. For example, 'I am advising you to don’t go for it' should be 'I advise you not to go for it', and 'continue with job' should be 'continuing with a job'. There are also issues with article usage and preposition placement, such as 'in bank' instead of 'in a bank'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they occur frequently enough to limit your score in this criterion.
