Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses all three bullet points: it explains why college might not be enjoyable, why a job is beneficial, and suggests a specific role. However, the development of these ideas is quite limited. The reasoning regarding why the friend would not enjoy college is vague ('you fell not good'), and the suggestion of a hotel manager role lacks depth or context. While the task requirements are met, the ideas are not fully extended or supported with sufficient detail to reach a higher band. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, but the content remains superficial throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The letter is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate, such as the repetitive use of 'therefor' and 'so'. Referencing is sometimes unclear, and the flow between sentences is frequently disrupted by grammatical errors. While there is a basic logical progression from the introduction to the advice and the closing, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the awkward phrasing make the text feel disjointed in several places.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is quite basic and repetitive. There are several instances of word-choice errors, such as 'fast friend' instead of 'close friend', 'collage' instead of 'college', and 'beach mate' instead of 'classmate'. The student attempts to use some more formal vocabulary, but these attempts are often unsuccessful due to incorrect usage or spelling errors (e.g., 'Respectfuly job', 'contant'). The range is sufficient to convey the basic message, but it is not flexible or precise enough to move beyond a Band 5 level.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5
The response contains frequent grammatical errors that often impede communication. There are consistent issues with subject-verb agreement ('you well find', 'you fell not good'), incorrect word order, and missing articles. Sentence structures are predominantly simple, and attempts at more complex sentences are often faulty, such as 'I have many types of jobs. But I selected only one job for you witch is suitebale for nd you enjoy your job'. Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with the use of abbreviations like 'nd' and 'u', which are inappropriate for an IELTS task.
