Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Mayank,

I hope you are doing well. I am glad you are seeking for my advice regarding making the biggest decision of your life and I feel you should start looking for a new job.

In next month, you are going to be 28 and I think at this age, you should get settle in your life instead of applying for a college. Nowadays ,All of our freinds are working and Rahul is about to get married. Being an introvert, I feel it would be really difficult for you to find new friends in the college.

Moreover, you have already completed your diploma in computer prograaming which is more than sufficent to assist you in acomplishing a high wage role in IT industry.

I am happy to let you know that my company is hiring a Junior developer and i would love to refer you for that position. I am confident that you can easily clutch that interview and we can work together for the same company.

I am looking forward to hear back from you.

Best wishes,

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5

You have addressed all three bullet points of the task effectively. You provided a clear reason why college might not be suitable for your friend, explained the benefits of working, and suggested a specific job role. Your tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and your position is consistent throughout. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly more on the 'why' behind your advice to provide a more nuanced argument, but overall, the task requirements are fully met with relevant and well-developed ideas.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'In addition' to link ideas. However, the flow could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the transition between sentences is smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, and the overall structure makes the letter easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to convey your message clearly. Phrases like 'seeking for my advice' and 'high wage role' are understandable, though some word choices are slightly unnatural. There are a few spelling errors, such as 'prograaming', 'sufficent', and 'acomplishing', which slightly detract from the quality. To improve, focus on more precise collocations and ensure careful proofreading for spelling accuracy. You have successfully used some topic-specific vocabulary related to the IT industry.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'In next month' (should be 'Next month'), 'get settle' (should be 'get settled'), and 'looking forward to hear' (should be 'looking forward to hearing'). These errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a need for more consistent control over verb forms and prepositions. Increasing your use of varied complex structures while ensuring accuracy will help you achieve a higher band.
