Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Arun,
I hope you are doing well. I received your letter about the confusion between whether to go to college or try to get a job.
I really think that you should try to get a job because college is very far from your house and it takes so much time to reach. If you want to enhance you skills you can learn from youtube. That helps you to learn more things .
Also, if you get job it helps you financially. As you know that condition of your family. There are so many jobs like gym trainu, cricket coach and sports teacher in a school because you have a very good body and interest in cricket and other sports. I think you should apply for this jobs.
I hope you will find you job soon and please let me know if you want any help from me.
Best wishes
Ravneet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state why college is not suitable, explain the financial benefits of working, and suggest specific roles like a gym trainer or sports coach. However, the development of these ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding why college is not enjoyable is restricted to the distance from home, which is a rather narrow argument. To reach a higher band, you should expand your points with more depth and detail, such as discussing the practical experience gained through employment versus the theoretical nature of college.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter follows a logical structure with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Paragraphing is used to separate the different requirements of the task. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'Also' and 'If you' are used frequently to start sentences. To improve, try incorporating a wider variety of linking words and transition phrases, such as 'Furthermore,' 'Consequently,' or 'In addition to this,' to create a smoother flow between your ideas and sentences.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks variety and precision. You rely on common words like 'good,' 'help,' and 'things.' There are also some minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'gym trainu' instead of 'gym trainer' and 'you skills' instead of 'your skills.' To achieve a higher score, you should aim to use more specific vocabulary related to career advice and personal development, and ensure that your spelling and word forms are accurate throughout the text.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For example, 'As you know that condition of your family' is missing an article and a verb, and 'apply for this jobs' contains a plural agreement error. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to impact the overall accuracy. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles will significantly improve your writing.
