Student answer (Band 6.5)
Hi Neha,
I hope you are doing great. I recently received your letter in which you are asking for advice either to choose college or get a job. I am writing to advise you to get a new job due to your financial condition.
As you are my close friend, I know you better that you are introverted and I am definitely sure that you would not enjoy college. Moreover, you are more interested in getting practical experience rather than studying in a classroom.
The idea to get a job would be a good decision according to your financial condition. you can support your family and make their life easier. Furthermore, You can get experience which can help you to get a reputed job in future.
I would recommend you to get an IT job as you have done a Bachelor's in computer. The programmer position could be suitable for you as you are perfect in programming.
I hope these recommendations or advice would be helpful for you. If you need further information then do not hesitate to call me.
Take care
Harpreet

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly explain why college might not be suitable for your friend, provide a logical argument for choosing employment, and offer specific job suggestions. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the purpose of the letter is clear from the beginning. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly more on the 'why' behind the job suggestions to provide more depth, but overall, the task is fully addressed with a consistent position throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Furthermore', and 'In addition' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the paragraphing could be more refined to ensure a smoother flow between the financial argument and the specific job recommendation. The referencing is generally clear, and the progression of ideas is easy to follow, meeting the requirements for a coherent response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'financial condition', 'practical experience', and 'reputed job'. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'get a new job' (when the friend is choosing between college and work, not necessarily a 'new' job) and 'perfect in programming' (which should be 'proficient in'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly, it lacks the variety and precision of more advanced lexical usage.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The letter contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'I know you better that you are introverted' (should be 'I know you well enough to know that...') and 'The idea to get a job' (should be 'The idea of getting a job'). Additionally, there are minor punctuation and capitalization errors, such as 'Furthermore, You'. These errors do not impede communication but occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score.
