Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Ankit

Hope you’re doing great. I am so glad that you choose me to take help with your decision as we grow together and know each other well. At this point I would recommend you to go with the job option rather than to go for college.

At this period of life, we are too young to adapt ourselves in the professional environment moreover nowadays employers seek out for experience not qualification. The business world knows what expertise brings on the table cannot be achieved by applying education as well as being financially independent you will be able to make your career much faster.

I would recommend you to go with job hunting for quality control department in the pharmaceutical manufacturing plants as there you will get a vast exposure to all kinds of instruments and apparatus that we really preferred during our practicals.

I am hoping that you will find the best job and gain valuable experience.

Best regards

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly state your preference for a job over college, explain why college might not be enjoyable, and provide a specific suggestion for a career path. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation of why college is not suitable is a bit brief and could have been expanded with more personal or practical reasoning. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is fully extended with more detailed supporting arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'moreover' and 'at this point', which help the flow of ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or abrupt. The paragraphing is appropriate for a letter format. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that the progression between sentences feels more natural rather than just listing points. Overall, the message is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to communicate your ideas clearly. Phrases like 'professional environment', 'financially independent', and 'pharmaceutical manufacturing' are relevant and well-used. There are some minor issues with word choice, such as 'choose me to take help' (should be 'asked for my advice') and 'what expertise brings on the table' (should be 'what expertise brings to the table'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do show a need for more precise collocation and idiomatic usage.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical inaccuracies, such as 'employers seek out for experience' (should be 'seek out experience') and 'as well as being financially independent you will be able to' (which lacks a clear subject-verb connection). There are also some punctuation issues, such as missing commas after introductory phrases. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions, and try to incorporate more complex sentence structures with greater accuracy.
