Student answer (Band 6.5)
Dear Smith,
Hope you are doing well. It's been a long time since we met. I am glad to advice you about your future career prospects.
As you recently completed your bachelor's in information technology. Rather than studying again to pursue master's degree, You should try finding a job in your field because practical experience gives more exposure than theoretical knowledge. However, practical on-job experience often adds more value in resume and escalate the chances of getting a job with competitive salary and lucrative benefits. However, you won't enjoy going back to college because most of our buddies are working now.
I think you could easily get a entry level job in tech sector, as your field of study is really vast which easily targets multiple roles in tech sectors. There are many new start-ups who are often hiring individuals for such entry-level positions. Starting a job in small company and gaining experience is a road to getting a senior position in MNC.
I hope my advice would help you to choose your career. Lemme know if you need any help. I'm just a one call away.
Best regards,
Param

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0
You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt effectively. You clearly explain why college might not be enjoyable, why working is a better alternative, and you provide specific suggestions for job types. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are slightly more developed; for instance, when mentioning that 'buddies are working now', you could elaborate on the social aspect of this to make the argument more compelling. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with clear paragraphing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the prompt, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. You use some cohesive devices like 'However' and 'As you recently completed', though the use of 'However' at the start of the second paragraph is slightly repetitive and not entirely logical in context. To improve, try to use a wider variety of linking words and ensure that transitions between sentences are smoother to avoid a slightly mechanical feel.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'career prospects', 'theoretical knowledge', and 'lucrative benefits'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'escalate the chances' (which should be 'increase' or 'improve') and 'a entry level job' (which should be 'an'). While these errors do not impede communication, they show that your control over less common vocabulary is still developing. Focus on learning common collocations to sound more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'I am glad to advice you' (should be 'advise'), 'adds more value in resume' (should be 'to your resume'), and 'a one call away' (should be 'just a call away'). Additionally, there are some punctuation and capitalization inconsistencies. While these errors are noticeable, they do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of articles.
