Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Arya,
I hope your are doing well! It was wonderful to spend time with all of you in Toronto last week. You always been so dear to me and always will be.
Anyway, I came know about you from your mom that you are planning to take admission for masters. I would like strongly suggest to you don’t go for it.You have already completed your bachelors in Computer Programming. Believe me you will feel so uncomfortable again in class room with other younger classmates and you are planning to do part time job alongside which will make you more tired and sleepy during the lectures.
As per I know you had already one student load on your head. For that reason apply for entry levels jobs as game developer because you love that and you made great project in final exam. You can put that project too in your resume and I will give you few references and prepare you for interview questions.
Best of luck for your job hunting. Hope you understand that you need money right now and make wise decision.
Your sincerely
Hmm.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5
You have successfully addressed all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explained why college might be unsuitable, provided a logical argument for choosing employment, and suggested a specific job role. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a consistent position throughout. To reach a higher band, you could expand slightly more on the 'why' behind your suggestions to provide more depth. For instance, explaining the long-term career benefits of gaining practical experience now versus the potential stagnation of returning to a classroom environment would strengthen your argument further.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a distinct point, which helps the reader follow your argument easily. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat limited and occasionally mechanical. Phrases like 'Anyway' and 'As per I know' are used to transition, but they feel a bit informal or slightly unnatural. Using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that the flow between sentences is smoother would improve the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for this task, successfully conveying your message. You use some relevant topic-specific terms like 'Computer Programming', 'entry level', and 'resume'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'take admission for masters' (should be 'enroll in a master's program') and 'student load' (likely meant 'student loan'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your expression. Expanding your vocabulary to include more idiomatic expressions or precise collocations would help elevate your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors throughout the text, such as 'I hope your are doing well' (you are), 'You always been' (You have always been), and 'I would like strongly suggest' (I would like to strongly suggest). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositions. While these errors are frequent, they rarely cause confusion for the reader. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct placement of adverbs within your sentences.
