Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Jass,

How are you? Its being a long time since we talk. I was on cloud nine, when I recieve your letter and feel more delighted when I saw that you considered me to give you an advise for your future aspects.

I think you are pretty intelligent in financing since your childhood and you have learned all techniques and terms in your gradution. Its better for you now to get a job in a financing firm and learn a real experience instead of pursuing post graduation.

In current situation, I believe job is perfect option to enhance practical skills and earn money. Companies are now more willing to invest on real talent instead of on paper degrees, and you have a god gifted mind in calcutaions.

I would suggest you to apply for financial advisor in a bank or in an IT sector. I will also recommend you to use online platforms to apply for the job such as linkedln or indeed. These sectors are very deliberate to hire freshers and give them a chance.

I hope my advise will help you to make your decision. I always ready to give you further assistance if you needed. I will catch you soon.

Lots of Love,

Kamal

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state why college might not be enjoyable, explain the benefits of working, and suggest specific roles. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat brief. For instance, while you mention that companies prefer 'real talent,' expanding slightly on why your friend specifically would struggle with the academic environment of college would have provided a more comprehensive response. Overall, the task is fulfilled effectively with a clear position maintained throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. The progression of ideas is easy to follow. You use some cohesive devices such as 'In current situation' and 'I would suggest,' though some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly unnatural. The use of referencing is generally clear, although the connection between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words to enhance the flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different points of your advice.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'pursuing post graduation' and 'financial advisor.' However, there are several instances of word-choice errors and non-standard collocations, such as 'god gifted mind' (should be 'gifted mind' or 'natural talent'), 'financing firm' (should be 'financial firm'), and 'deliberate to hire' (should be 'eager to hire'). While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise vocabulary usage and better awareness of common English collocations.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('Its being a long time', 'I recieve'), article usage ('in a financing firm'), and spelling errors ('gradution', 'calcutaions', 'linkedln'). While the meaning remains clear, these errors are noticeable and occur with enough frequency to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic tense consistency and common spelling mistakes, as these detract from the overall quality of your writing.
