Student answer (Band 6.0)

Dear Manisha,

I am writing this letter to suggest you to choose a job over the college study.

I know you are stressed about selecting a work or a college. As you already completed Masters in business Administration which is enough to apply for a job . also, i believe that if you will take admission in a college which you had shared with me, that's not well-known for its reputation as well as study opportunity.

Moreover, i recently watched a job vacancy in a popular bank in that area so, i would be best time to grasp that offer. they are providing a flexible hours of working with handsome salary according to candidate's abilities because i can understand managing family along with study or work is difficult as a married woman.

I wish you have a successful life ahead and waiting for your prompt response.

Best Wishes,

Harry

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The letter addresses all three bullet points: why college is not suitable, the benefits of working, and suggestions for job types. However, the response is slightly under the 150-word minimum, which impacts the overall development of ideas. While the advice is clear, the explanation regarding why the college is not reputable is somewhat vague. Additionally, the suggestion for job types is limited to a single bank vacancy rather than a broader range of suitable roles. To improve, you should expand on your reasoning and ensure you meet the minimum word count requirement to fully develop your arguments.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The letter follows a logical structure with an opening, body paragraphs, and a closing. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and occasionally inaccurate. For example, the transition 'also, i believe' is poorly punctuated and lacks a capital letter. Paragraphing is present but could be more distinct to separate the different points effectively. The flow between sentences is sometimes disjointed, making the progression of ideas feel a bit abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring consistent paragraph breaks would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'reputation', 'vacancy', and 'flexible hours'. However, there are instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'selecting a work' (should be 'choosing between a job and college') and 'study opportunity'. Some phrasing is unnatural, such as 'I wish you have a successful life'. To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure your vocabulary is consistently appropriate for a semi-formal letter. Avoid repetitive phrasing and try to incorporate more sophisticated synonyms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The response contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent errors in grammar and punctuation that occasionally impede readability. Issues include inconsistent capitalization (e.g., 'also, i believe'), incorrect verb forms ('if you will take admission'), and missing articles. The sentence 'I would be best time to grasp that offer' is grammatically incorrect. While the meaning is generally clear, the frequency of these errors prevents the writing from reaching a higher band. Focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and punctuation to improve your accuracy.
