Student answer (Band 7.0)

Dear Anjali,

I hope you are doing great. I am very glad that you have completed your studies in Health Sciences. I think you should get a job as you asked for my advice whether you need to study further or get involved with work.

I believe it is not going to be fun for you to go to college because you have just finished your masters in Women's Fertility. As you need to use your knowledge practically, attending college means you are gaining excessive theoretical knowledge which will, over time may feels like a burden and you could loose interest in your studies.

However, if you start your career, you would feel completely different. It will help you utilize your wisdom for the betterment and well-being of the society. Thus you can experience the real value of your studies and also feel proud of yourself. Moreover, you can take a step to secure your future by starting a job and earning money.

The field you chose to study has a lot of scope in job market. You can easily find a post for gyneachologist or women fertility consultant in any government or private hospital or open your own clinic after the required experience to do so. The gyneachologists are paid a fat amount of salary as well. As you have relevant experience in this sector, This would not be too hard to find a job.

I hope my advice will work for you. Feel free to contact me to ask further. I will wait for your response.

Kind regards,

HK.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 8.0

The letter successfully addresses all three bullet points in the prompt. You clearly explain why further college study might be burdensome, provide a logical argument for entering the workforce, and suggest specific, relevant career paths. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a consistent, helpful stance throughout. The ideas are well-developed, and the response is fully relevant to the task instructions. No parts of the prompt were omitted, and the position is clear from the beginning to the end, demonstrating a strong grasp of the requirements for a General Training Task 1 response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.5

The letter is logically organized, with each paragraph focusing on a specific aspect of the prompt. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'However', 'Moreover', and 'Thus' to connect your ideas effectively. The progression of thought is clear, moving from the initial advice to the reasoning, and finally to specific suggestions. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the different sections of the letter. While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions could be slightly more natural, but overall, the structure is coherent and easy to follow throughout the entire piece.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary appropriate for the context, such as 'theoretical knowledge', 'betterment', and 'well-being'. There are some minor spelling errors, such as 'gyneachologist' (gynecologist) and 'loose' (lose), and some slightly awkward collocations like 'fat amount of salary'. However, these errors do not impede communication. You show an ability to use topic-specific vocabulary related to the medical field, which adds depth to your writing. To reach a higher band, focus on refining word choice and ensuring correct spelling of professional terminology.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There are some grammatical slips, such as 'which will, over time may feels like a burden' (which, over time, may feel like a burden) and 'This would not be too hard to find a job' (It would not be too hard to find a job). Despite these occasional errors, the meaning is always clear, and the majority of your sentences are accurate. You demonstrate a good command of punctuation and sentence construction, which allows for a smooth reading experience.
