Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Samantha,
I hope you are pink of health. I got your letter yesterday only. I understood the pain and anxiety you must be feeling right now. I'm sorry that I cannot be there with you in this difficult time. So I'm writing this letter to cheer you up.
I was once in your shoes. It was a tough call to take but I chose to get a job rather than applying for another degree. And I will also suggest you the same. I know it is hard for you make the decision thus I'm suggesting you to go and get a job.
Getting a job is much needed in today's fast growing world. These days companies are always looking for people with experience rather than having multiple degrees. Since you already have a MBA, you will easily find a job. You can work as a business administrator or a financial analyst as well. These two roles are in demand nowadays. So, in last I will advice you to think about getting a job as it will help you be financially independent. Take care.
Regards,
Rachael

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses all three bullet points of the task. You clearly state your position, explain the benefits of working, and suggest suitable roles. However, the first bullet point—explaining why your friend would not enjoy college—is under-developed. You mention that you chose a job over a degree, but you do not explicitly explain the downsides of college for your friend, such as the academic pressure or the lack of practical experience. To reach a higher band, ensure each bullet point is fully explored with specific reasons or examples rather than just stating your preference.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body, and conclusion. Paragraphing is used, though the body paragraphs could be more distinct to separate the different points. You use some cohesive devices like 'Since', 'However', and 'So', but the flow is occasionally a bit mechanical. For instance, the transition between the introduction and the body could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, and the overall progression of ideas is easy to follow throughout the letter.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task. Phrases like 'tough call', 'financially independent', and 'fast growing world' are used effectively. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and informal expressions, such as 'pink of health' (which is a bit clichéd and slightly misused here) and 'in last' (which should be 'finally' or 'in conclusion'). To improve, try to incorporate more precise collocations and avoid overly colloquial or slightly unnatural idioms. The vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning clearly without difficulty.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is always clear, there are several grammatical slips, such as 'I will also suggest you the same' (should be 'suggest the same to you') and 'I'm suggesting you to go' (should be 'suggesting that you go'). There is also a minor error in 'I know it is hard for you make the decision' (missing 'to'). Despite these errors, your control of grammar is generally good, and the mistakes do not impede communication. Increasing the variety of complex structures would help elevate your score.
