Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear Lakhvir,

How are you doing? I recently just heard about that you're bit confused about whether you should got to college or you should start a job. I think seeking a job is the better idea for you.

I personally believe that you would not enjoy the college because you've been interested in work since your childhood. As I know you since childhood time, you already have the best innovative business ideas, which might be helped you to complete your higher education.

I think based your knowledge you really deserve a better job. Before joining a college, your should definitely go for a job to exposure your horizons, which would help to learn advance knowledge and earn some money for your college education.

What types of jobs you can do? You can apply for a job in some business companies and you can also do a job of a salesman. As you already attended the internship workshops during your graduation, then you can join such companies based on such experience to start a basic job, which would help you to get better job in future.

Hope my suggestions would help you to choose a better decision. Miss you a lot!

Take care,

Manisha.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly state why college might not be suitable, explain the benefits of working, and suggest specific job types. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of your ideas is somewhat limited. For example, when you mention that your friend has 'innovative business ideas,' you do not explain how these ideas specifically conflict with the college curriculum. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more fully extended with specific examples or logical reasoning rather than just stating them briefly.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific aspect of the task. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'I personally believe,' 'I think,' and 'As you already attended.' While the flow is generally smooth, some transitions feel a bit mechanical. The use of referencing is mostly clear, though there are minor issues with sentence-level cohesion, such as the slightly awkward phrasing in the second paragraph regarding the connection between business ideas and higher education. Overall, the message is easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using words like 'innovative,' 'internship,' and 'graduation.' However, there are several instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'start a job' (better: 'enter the workforce'), 'exposure your horizons' (should be 'broaden your horizons'), and 'do a job of a salesman' (better: 'work as a salesperson'). These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. Expanding your vocabulary to include more natural collocations would improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully convey your meaning, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Examples include 'heard about that you're bit confused' (missing 'a'), 'whether you should got to college' (incorrect verb form), 'based your knowledge' (missing 'on'), and 'your should definitely' (incorrect pronoun). These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions and articles.
