Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear John,
I hope you're doing well.
I am very pleased to know that you have successfully completed the Bachelor's degree in Software Engineering program. I would glad to advise you to kick start your career by getting suitable job.
As per current market demand, employers are now preferring the skilled employee rather than qualified worker. Therefore, you should first get some experience through job and polish your abilities in practical aspects. The knowledge that you already acquired through studies will be enhanced while doing the job. After attaining some experience, you can then enroll yourself in college by continuing the career. By this approach, you will get job experience and education simultaneously. Even doing job will help you to decide which field is suitable as per your abilities and you can boom yourself in that specific field.
You must need to join IT company or any software house in your area. Search the job through social websites and on newspaper to expedite the hunting.
I wish you good luck with your future endeavors.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state your preference for the friend to get a job, explain why college might not be the best immediate choice, and suggest specific types of employment. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why he would not enjoy college is slightly vague, focusing more on the benefits of working rather than the drawbacks of further study. To reach a higher band, ensure that each bullet point is fully explored with more specific reasoning or personal context. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a consistent perspective throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5
The letter is logically organized, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. Each paragraph focuses on a specific aspect of the task. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Therefore', 'After attaining', and 'By this approach', which help the flow of ideas. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical or slightly unnatural, such as 'By this approach'. The paragraphing is sufficient, but the connection between the ideas could be smoother to improve the overall progression. Overall, the message is easy to follow, and the structure supports the reader's understanding of your advice.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'expedite', 'endeavors', and 'attaining'. There are some minor issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'boom yourself' (which is not standard English) and 'the Bachelor's degree' (where 'a' would be more appropriate). Additionally, 'doing job' should be 'getting a job' or 'working'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over collocations and idiomatic expressions. Expanding your vocabulary to include more natural phrases for professional advice would enhance your score.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is good. However, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For instance, 'I would glad to advise' should be 'I would be glad to advise', and 'employers are now preferring the skilled employee' is slightly awkward; 'prefer skilled employees' would be more natural. There are also issues with article usage, such as 'join IT company' (should be 'an IT company') and 'on newspaper' (should be 'in newspapers'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to limit the score to a 6.0.
