Student answer (Band 7.5)
Dear Mitesh,
I hope you are doing splendidly. I am extremely delighted to assist you in getting out of confusion whether to go to college or seek for a job.
I am sure that you will not enjoy going to college since you are reluctant to reading and writing. In addition, your financial challenges might not allow you to concentrate on your studies. So that, attending college will not be suitable for you.
As per my perspective, securing a job will be ideal for you. As you are struggling with financial difficulties, seeking a job instead of pursuing education will help you meet your daily expenses and reduce your stress related to financial problems. It will be like killing two birds with one stone.
I would suggest working as a tutor in language learning classes because your ability to speak multiple languages will allow you to contribute effectively to achieving better career. You may also run your own business by applying this idea in the long-term.
I would be glad to help you any time and do not hesitate to reach me if you have more doubts.
Best wishes,
Miral Khunt

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.5
The response successfully addresses all three bullet points of the prompt. You clearly explain why college is not a good fit due to the friend's dislike of reading and writing, provide a logical argument for employment based on financial needs, and offer a specific, relevant job suggestion. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, and the position is consistent throughout. To reach a higher band, you could further develop the ideas by providing more specific examples of how the suggested job would help the friend's long-term career goals, rather than just mentioning it briefly.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 8.0
The letter is well-organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs for each point, and a closing. The progression of ideas is logical, moving smoothly from the reasons against college to the benefits of working and finally to the specific job recommendation. You use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'In addition', 'As per my perspective', and 'instead of', which help guide the reader. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the different requirements of the task. The overall structure is coherent and easy to follow.
Lexical Resource — Band 7.0
You demonstrate a good range of vocabulary, including idiomatic expressions like 'killing two birds with one stone' and phrases such as 'splendidly' and 'contribute effectively'. While the vocabulary is generally accurate and appropriate for the context, there are minor issues with collocation, such as 'seek for a job' (should be 'seek a job' or 'look for a job') and 'getting out of confusion' (which sounds slightly unnatural). However, these errors do not impede communication, and the range is sufficient to convey your message with precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 7.0
The response uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures effectively. There are some minor grammatical slips, such as 'reluctant to reading and writing' (should be 'reluctant to read and write') and 'So that, attending college' (which is an incorrect use of a connector; 'Therefore' or 'Consequently' would be better). Despite these occasional errors, the majority of your sentences are error-free, and your control over punctuation and sentence structure is generally strong. The grammar does not interfere with the clarity of your advice.
