Student answer (Band 6.5)

Dear John,

Hope this letter finds you in pink of your health. I am writing this letter to give you advice about benefits of taking job over a study.

To be very honest, I know that you have already spent three years in completing an Early childhood Educator program. Due to this, I believe that you should pursue your profession in job rather study further. By enrolling in a job, you will be financially independent in such a young age. Moreover, it will add experience and confidence in daycare job. Hence, it can nominate yourself for Director position in childcare. Apart from it, being an Early childhood educator helps to tolerate anger and work work more patience and hardwork especially with young children. Ultimately, it can change your attitude towards life in a positive way.

Along with daycare, day home job can also be suitable as per your degree. Moreover, you can also work under social worker recruiters to enhance experience. It is convenient to choose one type out of multiple and can pursue future by joining a job.

I hope you would take my suggestion into your consideration and act accordingly.

Lots of love.

Arpan.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

You have addressed all three bullet points required by the task. You clearly explain why college might not be the best choice given the friend's existing qualifications, provide reasons for choosing a job, and suggest specific roles. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For example, the explanation of why he would not enjoy college is brief and relies on the assumption that he has already studied enough. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why'—perhaps mentioning the desire for practical experience or the burden of further tuition fees. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend, maintaining a consistent position throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The letter is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a closing. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover,' 'Hence,' and 'Apart from it' to link ideas. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced, such as 'Apart from it' and 'Along with daycare.' Additionally, the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'Hence, it can nominate yourself for Director position,' where the subject 'it' does not clearly refer back to a previous noun. Improving the flow between sentences would help the text feel more natural and cohesive.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'financially independent,' 'pursue your profession,' and 'enhance experience.' There are some minor errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'in pink of your health' (an idiom that is slightly misused here) and 'work work more patience' (a repetition error). You also use 'nominate yourself' incorrectly; a more natural phrasing would be 'apply for' or 'qualify for.' While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text, such as 'taking job over a study' (missing articles), 'in such a young age' (preposition error; should be 'at'), and 'work work more patience' (repetition and missing preposition). Some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'it can change your attitude towards life in a positive way.' While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your message, they are frequent enough to indicate a lack of full control over complex structures.
