Student answer (Band 6.0)
Dear Ravneet,
It is so great to heard from you. How have you been? Thank you for contacting me i already received you letter regarding weather you should join college or find out new job.
Well, if you are asking me i think you should do job and on side start doing online certification related to what you like. I felt like going to college these days is wastage of time and money.
Getting a job is better idea because you can start earning money for yourself and you do not have to ask your parents for money. You will be independent. You can take care of your own expenses and you will earn experience. Moreover, while working you will meet new people and build strong connections.
I think you mention before that you like Information Technology job. It is best to look for IT related jobs.
Best regards,
Ravinder Kaur

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The letter addresses all three bullet points required by the prompt. You clearly state why college might not be enjoyable, explain the benefits of working, and suggest suitable IT-related roles. The tone is appropriate for a letter to a friend. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited; for instance, the explanation of why college is a 'wastage of time' is quite brief and could be expanded with more personal insight or specific reasoning to better support your position. Overall, the response covers the requirements well, but the depth of the arguments could be improved to reach a higher band.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The letter is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each focusing on a specific part of the task. You use some cohesive devices such as 'Moreover' and 'because' to link ideas. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally a bit mechanical. For example, the transition between the opening and the main body could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the phrase 'if you are asking me i think you should do job'. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother transitions between paragraphs would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, such as 'independent', 'expenses', and 'certifications'. However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'It is so great to heard from you' (should be 'hear') and 'find out new job' (should be 'find a new job'). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands. To improve, focus on using more natural collocations and ensuring that your word forms are grammatically correct in context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The response contains a mix of simple and some complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('do job' instead of 'get a job'), verb forms ('to heard' instead of 'to hear'), and punctuation. While these errors do not impede communication, they are noticeable and occur throughout the text. To achieve a higher score, you should focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and ensuring that your sentence structures are consistently accurate. Proofreading for these common errors would significantly improve your performance.
